Mechanical Engineer (SME)
Position OverviewWe are seeking an accomplished Mechanical Engineer Subject Matter Expert (ME SME) with over 30 years of hands‑on experience in mechanical design and analysis. The ideal candidate is highly versatile, with deep and broad expertise across mechanical engineering disciplines, and a proven track record supporting a wide variety of avionics, military equipment, or ruggedized electronic systems. This role requires a technical leader capable of providing advanced guidance in mechanical design, structural and thermal analysis, electronics packaging, and specialized systems such as inertial measurement units or optical sensors.
Key Responsibilities- Serve as the principal technical authority and SME in mechanical engineering for complex systems and programs.
- Lead and support the design, analysis, and integration of mechanical subsystems, enclosures, and electronic packaging.
- Perform structural and thermal analyses to ensure mechanical integrity and environmental compliance.
- Provide expert guidance on mechanical design, materials selection, and manufacturing processes.
- Support the design and integration of inertial systems, optical sensors, or other precision instrumentation.
- Review and approve mechanical engineering deliverables, including drawings, CAD models, and technical reports.
- Mentor engineering teams, promote best practices, and elevate organizational technical competence.
- Participate in technical reviews, risk assessments, and problem‑solving sessions.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams including electrical, systems, and manufacturing engineers to ensure system‑level performance and reliability.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
- 30+ years of mechanical engineering experience with a broad and deep skill set.
- Proven history supporting avionics, military systems, or ruggedized electronics equipment.
- Expert in mechanical design, structural analysis, thermal analysis, and electronics packaging.
- Experience with inertial measurement units (IMUs), optical sensors, or similar high‑precision systems.
- Strong leadership, mentorship, and communication skills.
- Must be a US Citizen.
- Experience leading engineering teams or serving as a technical authority.
- Familiarity with military/aerospace standards and environmental testing.
- Proficiency in CAD tools, FEA software, and thermal analysis tools.
- Understanding of system‑level integration and verification processes.
- Exceptional problem‑solving and analytical skills.
- Ability to translate complex engineering challenges into practical, effective solutions.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to mentor junior engineers.
In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in New Jersey is $185,000 - $225,000 annually. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to job‑related knowledge and skills, experience, and internal consistency.
