Responsible for implementing, supporting and improving health, safety and security programs. Identifies and mitigates safety and security risks to support business performance and reliability goals. Integrates health, safety, and security objectives into operational functions and coordinates programs with an emphasis on communication to facility personnel. Provides regulatory expertise, supports all levels of the organization, interacts with contractors, and requires field presence for oversight, operational support, and direction of all HS&S programs.
PrimaryDuties/Responsibilities
- Identify safety and risks and provide mitigation plans aligned with business and reliability goals.
- Establish safety management systems that support company goals and meet or exceed regulatory requirements.
- Integrate safety concepts into capital planning, performance modeling, operations, maintenance, engineering, and customer operations.
- Conduct safety site assessments and due diligence for Cap Ex and OpEx projects.
- Audit safety program implementation.
- Work closely with managers and supervisors in all departments to enforce safety policies and procedures, including inspections.
- Serve as contact to safety regulatory agencies and provide required notifications.
- Prepare estimates, specifications, and schedules for safety consultants, contractors, and equipment upgrades.
- Provide safety input into proposals and changes to facility operations and maintenance practices.
- Support the various Safety Committees.
- Contribute to the safety and security budget.
- Meet formally and informally with departments to ensure plans and requirements are supported.
- Maintain safety record‑keeping and reporting programs (e.g., OneEHS, injury reporting, OSHA logs).
- Prepare regulatory submittal reports and maintain permits and compliance data.
- Conduct facility inspections, provide compliance status reports, and develop corrective actions.
- Identify, coordinate, and provide safety training requirements, including instructor certifications.
- Develop hazard control designs, methods, procedures, and programs.
- Coordinate work‑site evaluations, job hazard analyses, and PPE requirements for chemical, physical, and biological exposures.
- Audit and measure effectiveness of hazard controls and communicate results to management.
- Design and implement employee training programs on accident investigation, safety inspections, PPE use, confined space entry, lockout/tag‑out, respiratory protection, etc., and provide field coaching.
- Conduct accident and incident investigations, perform root cause analysis, and recommend corrective actions.
- Coordinate Industrial Hygiene programs, inspections, consultant schedules, and data collection.
- Maintain facility Safety Data Sheets.
- Ensure compliance with standard safety codes, practices, and laws, and perform work in accordance with recognized trade and company standards.
- Review, update, and implement corporate HS&S standards, policies, and procedures.
- Prepare safety SOPs and site‑specific programs as required.
- Prepare alerts and lesson‑learned documents.
- Participate in internal EH&S audits and acquisition due diligence.
- Serve as a required member of the Haworth WTP Emergency Response Team.
- Identify and advance new technologies and innovations for health and safety.
