Overview

WSP USA is initiating a search for a full-time Electrical/ Critical Systems’ Commissioning Agent for our New York office; other office locations considered are New Jersey, Philadelphia and Virginia.

Our engineers work on high quality, high-profile, national and international projects. The successful candidate will be responsible for the execution of building commissioning processes (new/re/retro/continuous), energy auditing and building retrofit applications, support for sustainability certification applications, and measurement and verification techniques.

WSP USA offers opportunities for growth and development. You will work under supervision and guidance of senior commissioning leadership, with preliminary participation in business development activities encouraged.

Responsibilities / Your Impact
  • Assist with collecting, compiling, and analyzing data from the physical work site during construction phases for project energy auditing actions, validation, and commissioning.
  • Perform professional building and system commissioning work by researching and inspecting site conditions, equipment, layout, usage, and systems for conformance with rules, standards, codes, and permits.
  • Develop and configure testing specifications and readiness plans; prepare and update checklists/punch lists and cost estimates with coordination across owners, disciplines, sub-contractors, and clients.
  • Participate from project inception to completion for commissioning deliverables through concept, design, procurement, installation, and operation phases.
  • Assist with advanced technologies, modeling techniques, load calculations, and operating strategies to ensure proper installation and functioning of equipment and systems; implementing future-ready solutions with operating standards.
  • Verify site characteristics and provide technical assistance on design, installation, and integration issues related to commissioning and retro-commissioning of building systems including electrical switch gear, distribution, back-up systems, automation.
  • Support cross-functional teams on mid-level to multiple projects, including budgets, hours/expenses, task completion, materials/labor, calculations, permits, schematics, and regulatory memos.
  • Assist with commissioning and operational plans, ensuring data integrity and compliance with codes and regulations.
  • Prepare data visualizations and technical drawings for interpretation of complex data and findings.
  • Maintain quality control, document logs of testing and verification, and procedures for accurate measurements and reporting.
  • Develop and scope medium- to large-sized commissioning projects and provide guidance to entry-level to mid-level staff.
  • Prepare comprehensive technical reports and presentations to address design and/or installation issues or opportunities.
  • Interact with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and clients in a professional manner; collaborate with engineers, inspectors, project control, and technicians on building improvement projects.
  • Stay current with latest commissioning techniques and ethics in decision-making and comply with WSP’s Code of Conduct.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Architectural Engineering or Construction-related field or equivalent experience.
  • 5-7+ years of relevant post-education experience in commissioning, with prior building and systems commissioning exposure.
  • Knowledge of building commissioning principles, processes, and application to project work.
  • Technical knowledge of HVAC and Electrical building systems to evaluate and test performance.
  • Essential professional licensure/certification.
  • Experience with total facilities commissioning preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree preferred.
