Job Description

Position Summary

The Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Manager, based at the Stanhope site, will lead the development and execution of EHS programs across the company's manufacturing plants. This role is responsible for driving measurable improvements in safety culture, reducing employee injuries and incidents, maintaining regulatory compliance, and ensuring that environmental and industrial hygiene risks are identified and effectively controlled. The EHS Manager will partner with plant leadership, employees, third-party consultants, and regulatory agencies to promote proactive risk management and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities
  • Safety Culture and Performance: Develop and implement strategies that strengthen employee engagement, accountability, hazard awareness, and safe work practices. Establish goals and leading and lagging indicators to reduce injuries, illnesses, near misses, and other incidents.
  • EHS Management Systems: Maintain and continuously improve policies, procedures, standards, and programs aligned with applicable requirements and recognized industry practices.
  • Incident Prevention and Investigation: Lead or support investigations of injuries, illnesses, near misses, spills, and other significant events. Ensure root causes are identified, corrective and preventive actions are assigned, and actions are completed and verified for effectiveness.
  • Regulatory Compliance Audits: Conduct routine plant audits and assessments to verify compliance with OSHA, EPA, state, and local laws, regulations, permits, and company requirements. Document findings, prioritize risk, and track corrective actions through closure.
  • Environmental Compliance: Oversee qualified environmental consultants responsible for plant permits, plans, reporting, monitoring, and renewals, including air emissions, stormwater, wastewater, hazardous and nonhazardous waste, and other applicable environmental programs.
  • Industrial Hygiene: Plan and oversee third-party industrial hygiene testing and exposure assessments, including sampling for airborne contaminants, noise, and other workplace hazards. Interpret results and implement required corrective actions, with preference for feasible engineering controls before administrative controls or personal protective equipment.
  • Risk Assessment and Controls: Facilitate hazard assessments, job safety analyses, management-of-change reviews, and other risk-reduction activities. Partner with Engineering, Operations, and Maintenance to design and implement sustainable engineering solutions.
  • Training and Communication: Develop, coordinate, and deliver required EHS training. Communicate regulatory changes, lessons learned, performance trends, and expectations to leaders and employees.
  • Regulatory and Consultant Interface: Serve as a primary contact for regulatory inspections and EHS consultants. Coordinate responses, documentation, corrective actions, and follow-up commitments.
  • Recordkeeping and Reporting: Maintain accurate EHS records and regulatory documentation, including OSHA recordkeeping, permits, inspection records, monitoring data, training records, and required agency submissions.
  • Emergency Preparedness: Support the development, testing, and improvement of emergency response plans, drills, spill prevention and response procedures, and site-specific contingency plans.
  • Leadership Partnership: Advise plant and corporate leaders on EHS risks, priorities, capital needs, and compliance obligations. Coach supervisors and managers to visibly lead safety and environmental performance.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution; a degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or a closely related field is preferred.
  • Professional certification such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or another appropriate and relevant EHS credential.
  • Solid working knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental laws and regulations, including requirements applicable to air, stormwater, wastewater, and waste management.
  • Strong working knowledge of OSHA regulations and practical experience applying requirements in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Demonstrated experience leading safety improvement initiatives and reducing workplace injuries and incidents.
  • Experience managing environmental permits and third-party environmental consultants.
  • Experience coordinating industrial hygiene…
