Job Title: Controller
Location: Summit, NJ (Hybrid – minimum 2 days onsite per week)
Compensation: $180,000–$220,000 base salary + bonus
About the RoleA rapidly growing insurance organization is seeking a Controller to partner closely with the CFO and elevate the company’s accounting operations. This is a newly created role driven by expansion, offering broad ownership across monthly close, reporting, controls, and process improvements. The ideal candidate has a strong accounting foundation, experience in both GAAP and statutory reporting, and thrives in a hands‑on, high‑growth environment.
Key Responsibilities Accounting & Reporting- Lead statutory reporting, treasury functions, and collections.
- Manage the monthly close process, including oversight of the close calendar and reconciliation review.
- Prepare monthly investor reporting and quarterly reporting for internal and external stakeholders.
- Develop quarterly board reporting packages.
- Review annual and quarterly statutory statements and supporting work papers.
- Maintain and update accounting control documentation; ensure workflows and processes are clearly documented and efficient.
- Build and manage a comprehensive balance sheet control and reconciliation package for leadership review.
- Oversee review and enhancement of the accounts payable process to strengthen controls and cash management.
- Prepare and maintain expense reporting and reconciliation packages for management.
- Lead accounting‑related projects to enhance consistency of processes and controls across the organization.
- Lead both GAAP and statutory audits conducted by external auditors.
- Oversee the general ledger within Net Suite and drive system optimization.
- Support planning and forecasting efforts, including preparation of financial materials.
- CPA preferred (insurance industry experience valued over strictly public accounting backgrounds).
- Net Suite experience highly preferred.
- Solid background in GAAP accounting, statutory reporting, and audit management.
- Strong understanding of accounting controls, process design, and process improvement.
- Ability to excel in a fast‑paced, growing organization; comfortable being hands‑on and detail‑oriented.
