Position SummaryThe New Graduate Registered Nurse has the opportunity to strengthen knowledge and skill in the practice of nursing under the direct supervision of a registered nurse preceptor. The New Graduate Registered Nurse performs direct and indirect patient care functions, preparing them to transition from student nurse to health‑care team member. This position supports organizational goals by providing quality customer service, participating in performance improvement efforts, and demonstrating a commitment to teamwork and cooperation.
The RN graduate will be automatically enrolled in the Vizient/AACN New to Practice Nurse Residency Program, a one‑year nationally accredited program that facilitates transition to independent practice. The program provides additional support through monthly seminars and formalized mentorship. Outcomes include increased critical thinking and decision‑making confidence, improved professional satisfaction, stronger leadership and communication skills, and greater knowledge of self‑care, wellness, and resiliency strategies.
Qualifications- Education: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing; BSN preferred.
- Licence/Certification: Current BLS certification required.
- Experience: Interpersonal skills to effectively communicate and collaborate with team members; flexibility, prioritization, problem‑solving, and sound judgment in difficult situations. Proficiency in Clinical Applications preferred at time of hire; incumbents will be trained and expected to demonstrate this skill within 30‑60 days of hire.
Demonstrates the competencies as established on the Assessment and Evaluation Tool for this position.
Work EnvironmentPotential exposure to hazards and risks in a hospital environment, including infectious disease, blood‑borne pathogens, hazardous substances and potential injury. The job requires significant mobility and physical effort: reaching, stooping, kneeling and crouching approximately 25% of the workday; visual and physical ability to work at a computer terminal; standing and walking about 50% of the workday; lifting 50‑100 pounds frequently, with assistance occasionally;
and the physical ability to push, pull or transport equipment and patients.
This position reports to Nursing unit leadership.
