Overview
The Youth & Young Adult Minister (YYAM) will minister to the parish youth in grades 6-12 and post-high school age young adults ages 18-26, including youth and young adults at Our Lady of Peace Parish in Williamstown. The YYAM will assist with other youth and young adult groups, events, and activities (pilgrimages, retreats, outings, fundraisers, community service, parish events, etc.). The YYAM will collaborate with the team at OLOPP to run youth meetings/gatherings and lead the Young Adult Ministry.
Responsibilities- Develop rapport with the youth, provide formal catechesis, and invite/enable youth to serve others.
- Recruit, train, assess, and support all adult volunteers; develop a “Core Team” for youth ministry; work with parish staff to integrate youth into all aspects of parish life.
- Maintain close communication with families of the youth.
- Collaborate with other staff to promote the parish mission and diocesan vision.
- Spend time with youth at youth, young adult, and parish events to build rapport.
- Engage youth in service/outreach and develop programs based on whole parish catechesis.
- Implement the USCCB Renewing the Vision framework with eight components for youth faith formation.
- Mentor youth and develop peer leadership.
- Facilitate participation of parish youth in diocesan and national events with the OLOPP team.
- Organize and teach youth to live aspects of social justice; coordinate activities with other parish/diocesan events.
- Work with the DRE on continuing and post-confirmation formation; collaborate with the diocesan Office of Youth Ministry.
- Participate in and create fundraising events to support youth and young adult ministry.
- Other duties as assigned by the pastor and ministry supervisors, including recruiting/training youth volunteers; ensure adults over 18 comply with child safety guidelines.
Total of 15 hours per week as follows: 4.5 hours on Thursday evenings (2:30pm – 7:00pm); 2.5 hours on Monday evenings (6:30pm – 9:00pm); 4 hours once monthly on Sunday evenings; remaining time in the office.
Qualifications- A fully initiated active member of the Roman Catholic Church with no impediment to the reception of the Sacraments.
- Desire and passion to work with youth and young adults; understanding of evangelization and discipleship.
- Solid ecclesiology and understanding of the Catholic Faith; active parish involvement.
- Continues personal education through appropriate classes/workshops.
- Must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily.
- B.A./B.S. in youth ministry, theology, or relevant area preferred but not required.
- Certification in Catechesis or Youth Ministry from an accredited organization (or working toward certification) – required.
- Experience with youth/young adults – minimum 2 years preferred.
- Knowledge of Diocesan policies and USCCB Renewing the Vision and the eight components for ministry with adolescents.
$20.00/hr – $22.00/hr
