Description
Substance Abuse Registered Nurse — Residential Program
Schedule:
Full-time;
On-call for after-hours medical emergencies
Good News Home is a small nonprofit residential program serving up to 12 women with short-term, long-term, and aftercare services. The Substance Abuse Registered Nurse (RN) plays a central role in clinical care and recovery support, providing nursing leadership that promotes safety, evidence‑informed practice, and compassionate, trauma‑informed care grounded in our mission. This position reports to the Executive Director and partners with multidisciplinary staff.
Keyresponsibilities
- Conduct intake nursing assessments and compile initial medical histories to determine suitability for admission.
- Make nursing diagnoses, recommend treatment options, and develop individualized medical care plans.
- Administer medications, maintain accurate medication administration records, and ensure safe medication monitoring.
- Coordinate care with community medical and behavioral health providers and arrange referrals as needed.
- Monitor clients’ medical progress, complete scheduled evaluations for program compliance, and update care plans.
- Provide health education and facilitate group sessions on medical, wellness, and recovery topics informed by supportive biblical principles.
- Assist clients in understanding the nature of addiction, co-occurring conditions, and the importance of treatment.
- Provide crisis interventions and appropriate medical responses in emergencies.
- Oversee employee health requirements for new hires and maintain staff health records and emergency contacts.
- Compile requested reports for outside agencies and maintain accurate clinical documentation.
- Attend and contribute to staff meetings; document continuing education and training.
- Participate in on‑call rotation for after‑hours medical emergencies.

- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred; ADN with relevant experience considered.
- An active, current state Registered Nurse license is required.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in behavioral health/addiction nursing preferred; OR 5+ years supervisory experience in clinical settings desirable.
- Strong knowledge of addiction, detoxification, co-occurring disorders, and DSM terminology.
- Experience in residential or group‑home settings with an addictive population strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to perform accurate health assessments and implement appropriate interventions.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to collaborate with staff, clients, and community partners.
- Basic life support (BLS) certification required; advanced certifications (e.g., ACLS, crisis intervention) preferred.
