- Mon to Fri, 2:30pm to 11:00pm
- No weekends, no holidays
- Provides support and assists manager in technical, administrative, and operational functions.
- Processes surgical and autopsy specimens.
- Prepares microscopic slides for diagnostic purposes.
- Performs diagnostic testing including special stains and Immunohistochemistry.
- Examines slides microscopically to ensure preparation meets laboratory quality requirements.
- Provides appropriate leadership and assistance in all areas of the department – gives input into decision‑making, assumes responsibility of manager in his/her absence and actively promotes teamwork.
- Performs, reviews, and documents quality control according to established policies and procedures. Evaluates data and takes corrective action according to predetermined criteria or refers problem to the appropriate manager.
- Handles section proficiency surveys, coordinates results and maintains records.
- Embeds tissue samples in paraffin correctly identifying type of tissue as well as normal and abnormal tissue components.
- Cuts tissue in ultra‑thin sections modifying technique based on tissue type.
- Performs routine, special and Immunohistochemical staining procedures.
- Understands the basic principles of immunology as they relate to problem solving and unexpected test results.
- Prepares tissue specimens for routine and special processing, selects correct protocol based on physician orders.
- Correlates laboratory tests to disease processes and understands basic physiology required to recognise appropriate test selection.
Minimum of two years histology experience within the last 10 years required. Good interpersonal and time‑management skills.
Required EducationAssociate (AS) degree.
Training/Certifications/LicensureValid certification as a Histotechnician (HT) or equivalent (HEW) or meets CLIA ’88 educational requirements for high‑complexity testing.
Hourly Rate: $31.25 – $48.43. The actual salary/rate will vary based on applicant's experience as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.
