Position: AIRCRAFT ENGINE MECHANIC with Security Clearance
Location: McGuire AFB
Duties
* Troubleshoots one or more types or models of malfunctioning conventional and/or modified aircraft engines on the flight line, in test cells, or maintenance shops.
* Disassembles, repairs, and reassembles aircraft engines, their assemblies, and components. Diagnoses problems causing engine malfunction through the use of various automated test equipment. Detects mismatched or misaligned parts as a possible cause of damage or malfunction.
* Uses a variety of hand and power tools. Uses measuring instruments common to the trade such as micrometers, thickness and stretch gauges, dynamic balancing machines, dial indicators, vibration analyzers, pyrometers, test benches; and pneudraulic, speed, torque, ratchet, and end wrenches.
* Utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work area. Uses and assures proper fit of required safety equipment and clothing. Follows federal and state rules when storing, using, handling, labeling, and disposing of hazardous materials and waste in accordance with environmental standards. * This position has a limited area of consideration to command-wide (AMC).
* May be required to work overtime, rotating shifts, uncommon tours, weekends, etc.
* This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program.
* Employee must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing. Illegal drug use by employees in sensitive positions presents a clear threat to the mission of the Air Force, national security, and public safety.
* The physical requirements of this position as determined by the manager are:
The work requires moderate to strenuous effort. Must stand, stoop, bend, reach, climb, and crawl.
* Frequently handles items weighing up to 20 pounds and occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds. Hoists, hand trucks, lifts, or other employees are available to assist when handling heavy or awkward items. Qualifications In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-8600 Engine Overhaul Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying.

Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is the ability to do the work of an AIRCRAFT ENGINE MECHANIC without more than normal supervision. JOB ELEMENTS:
Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Knowledge of installation, operation, and repair of a variety of conventional and modified aircraft engines and accessory systems to troubleshoot, maintain, repair and/or test different types of engines; identify and correctly choose between alternative methods and trade techniques; adapt accepted repair procedures to new or unfamiliar engines or accessory systems; anticipate required tools and parts; set up the work area;

determine degree of disassembly necessary, and the extent of rework required.
2. Knowledge of safety regulations, practices, and procedures.
