Overview: Monmouth University seeks a Carpenter to construct, maintain, repair, assemble, install and replace interior and exterior building components on campus. This in‑person, non‑remote role requires daily use of vehicles, lifts, ladders, scaffolding and measuring devices.
Responsibilities- Construct, maintain, repair, assemble, install and replace interior and exterior building components.
- Interact with students, parents and other University community members in a positive, customer‑service oriented style.
- Keep supervisor and Executive Director informed about progress and problems on a daily basis or as needed.
- Maintain work‑hour and material‑expenditure records for various projects.
- Recommend materials; prepare required material lists for projects and daily maintenance.
- Regularly check and report safety problems; take corrective action as appropriate.
- Maintain of all equipment, materials and parts required to operate the Carpentry department.
- Respond to unscheduled and emergency service requests as needed.
- Work from blueprints and sketches; design and draw renovation and new construction details as needed.
- Assist locksmith staff with doors, locks, hinges and closing devices using appropriate tools.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Five (5) years of related experience.
- Valid driver’s license in state of residence with no serious violations (Type
A) in the past five years and no more than three (3) moving violations (Type B) in the past three years. - Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
- High attention to detail and care to prevent injury to self and others.
- Proficient reading, writing, and listening in English including MSDS directions, chemical product labels, equipment manuals and work orders.
- Basic mathematical skills.
- Ability to lift and move heavy objects regularly up to 60 lbs.
- Ability to use required safety and personal protective equipment, including respiratory protection.
- Ability to work in multi‑story buildings without elevators.
- Ability to climb ladders and work at heights and in confined spaces regularly.
- Ability to drive vehicles with standard transmissions.
- Willingness and ability to work overtime as required.
- Willingness and ability to respond to emergency calls after working hours.
- Excellent attendance and work record.
- Adherence to accepted trade practices, code requirements and all safety and good housekeeping requirements.
- High school graduate or equivalent.

Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 4:00 pm; 40 hours per week; 52 weeks per year.
