The Health and Fitness Manager provides support to people with intellectual disabilities and mental illness in such domains as personal care, recreation/leisure, community awareness and integration, and health and wellness activities including fitness programming. Adapts training materials so that they are functional and personalized, provides practical knowledge and instruction. Consults with a clinical team in developing the techniques and procedures utilized to help a person achieve their health goals.

They are also responsible for the instruction, maintenance, and upkeep of the fitness center and the equipment inside.

Salary: $41,000-$45,000 depending on experience and certification

Shift: M-F 10:30am-7pm FT

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Below are a list of the primary duties and responsibilities of this position

  • Collaborates and consults with leadership and other departments to support people served.
  • Researches material on fitness and develops individualized plans
  • Provides training, mentorship, and guidance to Direct Service Professionals.
  • Assist in making weekly, monthly schedules and calendars for the program.
  • Uses billing system and EHR system to track and complete daily attendance as well as progress notes.
  • Assist people served with activities of daily living as deemed necessary.
  • Ability to participate and volunteer in agency-wide opportunities; such as committees and fundraisers.
  • Coordinates, plans, and runs the health club and fitness center for people with disabilities and staff.
  • Collaborates with PT and OT to design individualized fitness programs and interventions.
  • Conducts assessments with clinical team to help set person-centered fitness goals.
  • Delivers and adapts fitness instruction to meet the needs of individuals served, ensuring accessibility and safety.
  • Monitors, measures, and documents participant progress toward fitness goals using appropriate tools and methods.
  • Promotes inclusive health and wellness programming that fosters participation, skill development, and community integration.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Must have computer skills.
  • Curriculum writing, development, training, and execution of activities.
  • The experience and/or ability to teach and assess learning objectives.
  • Knowledge of adaptive fitness or willingness to learn inclusive exercise instruction.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary teams including PT and OT.
  • Strong organizational skills to design, implement, and track individualized fitness plans.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Be able to lift over 40 pounds from floor to waist unassisted.
  • Be able to push and pull 75 pounds.
  • Be able to push wheelchairs up to 200 pounds.
  • Remain in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods.
  • Operate motor vehicles.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit; talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone keyboard, reach, stoop, kneel to install computer equipment.
  • Physical activities that could be used include: driving, balancing, pulling, pushing, standing, climbing, grasping, stooping, crouching, crawling, kneeling, reaching, lifting, and repetitive motion.
  • Ability to use a Hoyer lift (as needed)
  • Ability to demonstrate and assist with fitness exercises, movements, and adaptive equipment as appropriate.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Must pass a background check.
  • Must pass a physical exam.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Preferred experience or certification in fitness instruction, adaptive physical activity, or health/wellness programming.
  • NASM or ACE certification (or willingness to complete certification)
