Position Overview

The Assistive Enabling Technology Coordinator is responsible for planning, implementing, and supporting the use of assistive and enabling technologies to enhance independence, communication, learning, and quality of life for individuals served by the organization. This includes the integration of technologies such as virtual reality systems, driving simulators, adaptive computer equipment, communication devices, and environmental control tools.

Salary: $48,000 annually
Hours: 9AM-5:30PM Monday through Friday with one late day from 11:30AM-8PM
Location: TBD
Reports To: Director of Assistive Technology
Department: Assistive Enabling Technology

Essential Functions

  • Program Development & Implementation
    • Develop, schedule and deliver VR training sessions for individuals supported and families on the effective use of technology.
    • Coordinate use of the driving simulator for pre-driver assessment, driver education, and community mobility training.
    • Collaborate with occupational therapists, behavior specialists, and vocational trainers to integrate VR tools into person‑centered plans.
    • Implement and manage technology‑based programs, including virtual reality learning modules, driving simulation training, and adaptive communication systems.
    • Assess individuals’ needs to identify appropriate assistive or enabling technologies that promote greater independence, safety, and community participation.
  • Technology Management
    • Maintain equipment inventory, oversee maintenance and software updates, and ensure compliance with agency and funding source requirements.
    • Research new and emerging technologies to expand service offerings and enhance accessibility.
    • Manage software updates, content licensing, and data collection related to training outcomes.
    • Provide technical support and troubleshooting for assistive and adaptive devices.
  • Training & Support
    • Train staff and individuals served on the safe and effective use of assistive and enabling technology devices.
    • Develop instructional guides, video tutorials, and best‑practice resources for technology use.
    • Support interdisciplinary teams in integrating technology into therapeutic and educational environments.
    • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of technology interventions and make recommendations for improvement.
    • Travel between program sites, occasional lifting of adaptive equipment, and direct interaction with individuals supported by the organization.
    • Assist Assistive Enabling Technology director in conducting program and individualized assessments and consultation throughout the organization.
  • Program Evaluation & Reporting
    • Collect and analyze data on outcomes, participation, and skill progression.
    • Prepare reports and presentations demonstrating program impact.
    • Support documentation and data collection to demonstrate outcomes related to technology implementation.
    • Assist in grant writing or funding proposals related to enabling technologies.
  • Skills and Abilities
    • Strong communication, training, and problem‑solving skills.
    • Technical proficiency with assistive devices, software, and accessibility tools (e.g., communication devices, VR systems, adaptive input devices).
    • Ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams.
    • Excellent organizational and documentation skills.
    • Commitment to innovation and continuous learning in technology‑assisted support.
    • Data‑driven program evaluation and report writing ability.
  • Physical Demands
    • Be able to lift over 40 pounds from floor to waist unassisted.
    • Be able to push and pull 75 pounds.
    • Be able to complete deep knee squats.
    • Be able to push wheelchairs up to 200 pounds.
    • Remain in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods.
    • Operate motor vehicles.
    • Stand, sit; talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone keyboard reach, stoop kneel to install computer equipment.
    • Perform physical activities such as driving, balancing, pulling, pushing, standing, climbing, grasping, stooping, crouching, crawling, kneeling, reaching, lifting, and repetitive motion.
