Position OverviewNathan Hale Arts Elementary School is seeking a creative, organized, and collaborative Musical Director to oversee the success of our school musical. The director creates the overall vision of the production. The director facilitates all rehearsals and coordinates with the artistic staff. The director is responsible for blocking the show and coaching the performers. The director collaborates with the producer to create the schedule.
The director collaborates with the music director, choreographer, and artistic director to guide the show towards performance. The director actively supervises students during all rehearsals and show events. The director is responsible for other duties as assigned during the production. This temporary, stipend-based position is ideal for an experienced educator or theatre professional with a passion for developing young performers and shaping a cohesive, engaging musical production.
- Lead and manage all musical elements of the school musical.
- Teach and coach students on all vocal and musical components of the production.
- Plan and run music rehearsals; coordinate scheduling with the Director and production team.
- Work closely with the Director, Choreographer, and other staff to integrate music seamlessly with staging and choreography.
- Support students in understanding musical storytelling and developing performance confidence.
- Supervise students during rehearsals, musical run-throughs, and all performance-related activities.
- Assist with additional production needs as assigned.
- Experience as a musical director, vocal director, conductor, or music educator—preferably within musical theatre.
- Strong musicianship, piano proficiency (preferred), and excellent teaching/coaching skills.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with artistic staff and student performers.
- Prior experience working with children or youth strongly preferred.
- Strong communication, organization, and rehearsal-management abilities.
Stipend: $3,550 for the full production period.
