Primary FunctionTo provide effective services within the domains of assessment, consultation, and intervention; to help children and youth succeed academically, socially, behaviorally, and emotionally.
Responsibilities- Conduct psycho educational and behavioral evaluations using a problem‑solving framework based on data from multiple sources and valid assessment techniques.
- Make recommendations for evidence‑based interventions and instructional support strategies to develop academic, social, and life skills, and integrate behavioral supports and mental‑health services with academic and learning goals for children.
- Work collaboratively with other school personnel to create and maintain a multi‑tiered continuum of services and engage in effective communication to plan, implement, and evaluate academic and mental‑health services.
- Consider antecedents, consequences, functions, and potential causes of behavioral difficulties that may impede learning or socialization, and collaborate to develop and implement behavior‑change programs at the individual, group, classroom, or school‑wide level.
- Provide direct counseling, behavioral supports, and indirect interventions through consultation for students who experience mental‑health problems that impair learning and/or socialization.
- Participate as part of special education, 504, and problem‑solving teams, offering consultation and support to both school staff and parents to improve academic and social‑emotional‑behavioral functioning.
- Apply understanding of culture, background, and individual characteristics when collaborating with others and when designing and implementing interventions to achieve learning and behavioral outcomes.
- Create linkages between schools, families, and community providers, and help coordinate services when programming for children involves multiple agencies.
- Participate in school crisis teams and use data‑based decision‑making methods, problem‑solving strategies, consultation, collaboration, and direct services in the context of crisis prevention, preparation, response, and recovery.
- Maintain records and documentation of services and perform other related tasks assigned by administration.
- Connecticut certification as a School Psychologist (070)
- Additional qualifications as the Board deems advisable.
- Bilingual, English and Spanish
