Compensation
$80,000 – $105,000 per year

MLJ Contracting is seeking a Field Engineer to support the rehabilitation of the Northbound Gold Star Bridge in New London, Connecticut. This high‑profile infrastructure project involves complex steel reinforcement and repairs, deck replacement, and additional structural improvements to one of the region's most critical transportation corridors.
A Field Engineer is assigned to an active project full time. Under the direction of the Project Manager and/or Project Engineers, staff assigned as Field Engineers will perform various tasks related to the planning, engineering, and monitoring of a project. The Field Engineer will be responsible for managing schedule, quality, change orders and engineering relating to specific packages, scopes or work areas.
Education& Certifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil, Mechanical, or Environmental Engineering (or equivalent experience)
- Preparation of submittal packages to the owner/designer, and follow‑up with subcontractors/vendors as appropriate
- Development of work plans for specific operations
- Monitor construction progress in terms of quantities of work performed, performance vs schedule, and quality
- Assist in the procurement of materials or equipment required for the work
- Perform any other duties as assigned
- Management of subcontractors, including schedule, quality, change orders and scheduling of work
Typical career paths for Field Engineers include progressing to more senior Project Engineers on active projects, or to superintendents who manage the crews and subcontractors.
Qualifications- 0–2 years of experience
- Ability to read, understand, and interpret engineering drawings
- Working knowledge of Excel, Word, and Power Point
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD or drafting software
- Excellent interpersonal, writing, and computer skills
