About Department 403 – Technical Services
The Life Cycle Support directorate is responsible for the development and maintenance of all submarine logistics products, including modernization and fleet support of submarines. Our mission is to provide the U.S. Navy five‑star support that increases submarine operational availability and capability. As part of this directorate, Department 403 – Technical Services provides writing, editing, logistics, and production services in the development and maintenance of logistical technical data (LTD), including ship systems manuals and component technical manuals for OHIO, SEAWOLF, VIRGINIA, SSGN, and COLUMBIA.

Role Overview
The D403 Editor position in D403 Technical Services supports the COLUMBIA program in the management of Logistics Technical Documentation (LTD) products. The candidate will support the work of 3‑7 Technical Writers with the assistance of the D403 COLUMBIA Technical Leads and Supervisors. This position will coordinate efforts with various COLUMBIA Engineering departments to ensure the technical quality of the COLUMBIA Ship Systems Manual LTD products.

• Review and provide feedback to the content and format of technical writing products such as technical manuals.
• Resolve items identified as discrepant directly with engineering, shipyard organizations, and the customer.
• Determine the technical requirements of the writing product and instruct the writer as to the format and content.
• Provide mentorship and training to new and experienced writers.
• Work with supervision to determine priorities, schedule, and workload to plan and coordinate the work of the group.
• Ensure that the products are prepared in accordance with published procedures and processes.
• As directed, attend various meetings representing D403 supervision.
• Recommend and implement process improvement initiatives.

Required

• High School Diploma or GED
• 4+ years’ experience writing or using military technical manuals
• Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance
• Experience preparing documents using Microsoft Office

Preferred

• Bachelor’s Degree
• Prior Military Experience Technical background in steam plant and/or nuclear submarine systems and components

• Ability to accomplish tasks with limited supervision
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Programs
• Excellent communication skills – written and verbal
• Highly motivated
• Ability to multi‑task and understand department priorities
