Regularly performs the full range and scope of housekeeping services at a Navy Gateway Inn and Suites and/or Navy Lodge property, including but not limited to cleaning guest rooms, interior public spaces, storage areas, laundry rooms, exterior spaces, and more. Uses hand and powered cleaning equipment in the performance of duties.
Job SummaryThe Housekeeping Attendant is responsible for maintaining immaculate guest accommodations and supporting the overall hotel operations. Responsibilities include deep cleaning, guest‑room preparation, laundry, and facility upkeep while adhering to NHG protocols and safety standards.
Duties and Responsibilities- Clean guest rooms and assigned areas, operating vacuuming, carpet cleaning, and floor polishing equipment.
- Empty wastebaskets, dust, wax, and polish room furniture and fixtures.
- Wash walls, partitions, vents, toilet bowls, lavatories, and ventilate and deodorize surfaces.
- Clean windows, ceilings, and fixtures; change light bulbs and operate ladders or scaffolds safely.
- Move furniture to clean under and behind items; use step stools for window treatments and cabinet tops.
- Clean bathroom areas (tub, tile, walls, commode, floors, vanity) and kitchen areas (stoves, ovens, refrigerator, cabinets, floor).
- Wash and disinfect dishes, utensils, and cookware; use pressing or ironing where necessary.
- Ensure proper functionality of luggage racks and correct number of male/female hangers in closets.
- Program TVs to correct channels, set alarm clocks, and ensure in‑room phones operate correctly.
- Place amenities (consumable and non‑consumable) and manage bed linen, mattresses, and pull‑out sofas.
- Move beds upon checkout and at guest request.
- Greet and welcome guests, maintaining outstanding guest relations.
- Ensure privacy and security of guests at all times.
- Vacuum and mop corridors, stairways, guest laundry, patios, balconies, and exterior spaces.
- Shampoo rugs, carpets, and polish stair rails on a regular basis.
- Perform scheduled carpet cleaning with heavy‑industrial equipment.
- Conduct deep cleaning as required by program standards, including pet and ADA service animal rooms.
- Maintain cleanliness and order of storage rooms.
- Communicate status of cleaned rooms via daily assignments or the property management system.
- Accomplish minor equipment repairs and report major issues to the supervisor.
- Inspect and clean exterior spaces such as parking lots and passageways.
- Assist with loading/unloading trucks, vendors, and heavy items using hand trucks and tools.
- Maintain pass keys & return all keys at the end of each shift.
- Report immediate concerns (e.g., missing luggage, service room status, unauthorized pets) to the supervisor.
- Report lost and found items immediately, listing room number or area.
- Set up and break down complimentary self‑service breakfast bar; replenish and display items as needed.
- Obtain proper food handling certifications as applicable.
- Complete all required safety and security training.
- Maintain a clean and safe environment, following blood‑borne pathogen safety measures.
- Follow all NHG hospitality group protocols during daily service activities.
- Perform laundry operations as required.
- Possess a valid state driver’s license for occasional travel to other lodging facilities.
- Obtain NHG housekeeping certification within six months of employment and other required certifications.
- No prior experience required.
- High School graduate or equivalent preferred.
- Moderate physical effort: moving furniture, operating light or powered cleaning equipment.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to work independently.
- Good communication skills and a courteous disposition.
- Valid state driver’s license (preferred).
- Certification: NHG housekeeping certification desired.
