Working with various metals, a Ship fitter is required to interpret construction drawings with basic mathematical ability. Job tasks include layout, fabrication, assembly and installation of foundations, structures, components and deck packages. Individuals need to develop a working knowledge of structural weld joint fit-up/weld symbols, burning and grinding operations. Work assignments will be accomplished using company drawings, test documents, technical manuals, and shipyard procedures.
Work conditions may include entry in restricted/confined spaces.
- Interpret construction drawings and perform layout, fabrication, assembly and installation of foundations, structures, components and deck packages.
- Develop working knowledge of structural weld joint fit-up/weld symbols, burning and grinding operations.
- Utilize company drawings, test documents, technical manuals, and shipyard procedures to complete tasks.
- Possibly work in restricted or confined spaces as required by shipyard procedures.
- Must have a High School Diploma/GED or be a current High School Senior OR 2+ years of relevant technical experience.
- 0-5 years of relevant experience to this job description.
- Must be available to work any shift.
- Additional preference given for Vocational, Technical and Community Colleges or Apprentice programs.
- Successful completion of the Eastern CT Workforce Investment Board (EWIB) Manufacturing Pipeline Initiative training program.
- Knowledge in fitting, fairing and shaping steel pieces, hull sections, bulkheads and equipment foundations.
- Ability to interpret structural drawings, technical manuals, test documents and diagrams.
- Must be able to work all shifts and in all environments, including radiological areas of the boat.
- Willing to accept road job assignments.
- Individuais are required to possess their own basic hand tools.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a DOD secret clearance.
