Overview

Who is Saint Louis University? Founded in 1818, Saint Louis University is one of the nation’s oldest and most prestigious Catholic universities. SLU, which also has a campus in Madrid, Spain, is recognized for world-class academics, life-changing research, compassionate health care, and a strong commitment to faith and service.

The Warren Lab (in the Department of Biology at Saint Louis University) is seeking a postdoctoral research associate to join our team to study the physiological mechanisms that enable animals to survive severe hypoxia and anoxia. This position is funded by a National Science Foundation grant (award #2421029) to carry out studies of neurophysiological function and gene expression in the brain of anoxic turtles.

Our lab has recently cultured primary neurons from the cerebrocortex of turtles and demonstrated they possess a functional neuronal phenotype. The person hired will lead studies of the membrane properties of these isolated neurons in response to anoxia using whole-cell patch-clamp recording techniques.

The Warren Lab is part of a vibrant community of neuroscience researchers within Saint Louis University’s Institute for Translational Neuroscience. The St. Louis region is home to many academic and industrial leaders in neuroscience and physiology. The position will include travel to conferences and the formation of collaborations with researchers at the University of Toronto and Aarhus University.
