Location: Mescalero
H6260 CHILD CARE ATTENDANT at Inn of the Mountain Gods Resort and Casino
Assist in providing early learning and development for children ages 6 weeks to 12 years and 11 months. Work under the direction of the Childcare Manager and collaborate with supervisors and peers to maintain a safe, engaging, and supportive environment.
Key Responsibilities- Maintain required child‑to‑staff ratios and enforce health and safety standards, including sanitation and emergency procedures.
- Provide age‑appropriate curriculum aligned with the New Mexico Early Learning Guidelines and facilitate activities that promote language, literacy, math, and social‑emotional development.
- Apply positive behavior strategies and individualized supports, and communicate daily with parents about child progress and needs.
- Complete attendance, incident, and developmental observation reports in a timely manner.
- Adhere to state licensing regulations and FOCUS quality standards.
- Participate in required trainings and maintain certifications (CPR, First Aid, Food Handlers).
- Assist with meal preparation, serve meals and refreshments, and observe children’s play activities.
- Maintain cleanliness of children’s areas, including diaper changes, bathroom assistance, and post‑meal cleaning.
- Support the overall quality goal of “Do it right the first time,” protecting property and acting with professional demeanor.
- Perform other duties as assigned, including janitorial assistance when necessary.
- High School Diploma or GED required; six months of experience working with children preferred.
- Bilingual English/Apache preferred. Mescalero Apache tribal preference for bicultural experience.
- Minimum age 18; must hold current CPR, First Aid, and Food Handler’s Card.
- Must pass a pre‑employment drug/alcohol screen and background investigation in accordance with the Child Care Protection Act.
- Reliable transportation and proven record of dependability.
- Ability to work 10‑hour shifts and adapt to all child age groups, including “at‑risk,” special needs, gifted, and culturally diverse children.
- Strong organizational skills: organizing toys, materials, and classroom layout; reading to children; teaching simple drawing and songs.
- Excellent communication, listening, and interpersonal skills; ability to remain calm in emergencies and build respectful relationships with families and staff.
- Physical ability to stand, walk, lift up to 50 pounds, kneel, crouch, or crawl as needed.
- Understanding of occupational hazards and safety practices, and knowledge of early childhood development principles.
Work is performed in a child care center, classroom, and outdoor areas with high noise levels. Exposure to bodily fluids, unpleasant odors, and weather conditions may occur. Shifts may involve extended hours and regular scheduling.
