Position: ABCS SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER
Location: Shiprock

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree from accredited college or university or related field.
Valid State of New Mexico Teacher Licensure with Special Education Certification.
Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) endorsement preferred.
Knowledgeable of PL 105- IDEA Regulations.
Working knowledge of documentation necessary for Special Education requirements.
Must be highly qualified in accordance with Federal No Child Left Behind Law and regulations.
Comprehensive knowledge of State Academic Standards required.
Have strong time management to organize, prioritize work, and to meet deadlines.
Must have or obtain First Aid/CPR certification and a Navajo Nation food handler's permit.
Bilingual (Dine'/English) preferred.
Must be able to meet minimum physical requirements; stand for a long period of time and lift at least 40 pounds.
Must have a valid driver's license with an insurable driving record.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Complies with and supports all Shiprock Associated Schools, Inc.'s policies and procedures; includes guidelines related to COVID-19 and any unforeseen pandemic.

Integrates the school philosophy and mission statement into the area of work.

e. The Teacher manages the classroom to insure the best of instructional time.
f. The Teacher creates an atmosphere conducive to learning, achievement, and self-discipline.

Demonstrate the ability to work effectively with Native American students and parents.

Responsible to plan, develop, and implement a special education program in accordance with PL 105-17 IDEA and to coordinate activities with the rest of the school.

Responsible for special education instruction in the classroom, and as such will develop individual education plans (IEP) for each identified student and evaluate his progress.

Will develop program and operational procedures, coordinate daily learning programs, and provide for adequate parental involvement.

Will support children find activities.

Will coordinate the implementation of services with Paraprofessionals.

Responsible for PL 105-17 IDEA in-service training for all school staff/faculty.

Parent Contacts-Participate in two parent conferences and two PAC meetings per year. Student conferences will be utilized to discuss each student's achievement. In addition, initiates parent contact through notes, phone calls and, when appropriate, home visits.

Will be responsible to coordinate all special education-related testing and evaluations, insuring student-parent due to process, maintenance, and protection of records.

Attend staff and school meetings and activities.

Responsible for own professional growth through an on-going program of reading, workshops, seminars, conferences, and/or advanced course work at institutions of higher learning.

Performs duties as assigned.
