Position SummaryThe Humanities Department at UNM-Taos invites applications for a full-time, Open Rank Lecturer (II-III) position beginning Spring 2026. This is a unique opportunity at one of the most culturally vibrant and community-centered institutions in the Southwest. This faculty role will teach a variety of courses, face-to-face on campus, including Enhanced Composition, Composition I, Composition II, and Professional & Technical Communication focused on inclusive pedagogy, student engagement, and academic support.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a mission-driven institution committed to student retention and instructional innovation. Nine-month faculty salary is $60,000 to $62,000 based on education and experience.
Position Overview: We are seeking a passionate educator to teach English Composition and contribute to student success initiatives, academic momentum, and campus-wide instructional innovation. This role brings together classroom teaching and early intervention in alignment with UNM-Taos's Guided Pathways and our commitment to an exceptional student experience. The successful candidate will join a dynamic team of educators who are collaborative, curious, and dedicated to shared professional growth.
Humanities teaching at UNM-Taos is rooted in the rich context of the three cultures of northern New Mexico and engages students in experiential learning that connects directly to community and place. This role includes dedicated reassigned time to support institution-wide efforts focused on retention, access, and instructional support. This is an ideal position for faculty who see themselves as educators, mentors, and change agents.
Key Duties and Responsibilities- Teach English Composition (ENGL 1110Z/1110/1120/2210)
- Collaborate with the Center for Academic Support & Achievement (CASA) to support Writing Studio programming, accessibility services, and embedded writing support
- Contribute to the success of first-year students
- Partner with Guided Pathways teams, advisors, and academic programs to ensure instruction is aligned with student degree maps
- Engage in faculty learning communities, professional development, and service that supports inclusive pedagogy and student persistence
Located in the culturally rich and ecologically diverse region of Northern New Mexico, UNM-Taos serves a rural, predominantly Hispanic and Native American student population. Our English Composition program is rooted in critical thinking, clear communication, and contextualized learning that reflects the histories and voices of northern New Mexico. The Lecturer in English Composition plays a vital role in fostering students' sense of querencia—a deep connection to place and belonging—while building the writing skills that support academic achievement, transfer, career pathways, and civic engagement.
In doing so, this role helps prepare students to become the next generation of storytellers, professionals, and community leaders in our region.
