Summary of Responsibilities

This position is responsible for facility design safety basis activities with a focus on criticality safety analyses. The role works in Engineering and Integrated Safety Analysis, interfaces with employees and managers at all levels, and provides engineering support for calculations, walk‑downs, and general configuration management control as assigned.

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, or equivalent
  • 2+ years of direct work experience at a nuclear facility
  • 5+ years of related work experience, including 2 years in a nuclear facility
  • 2+ years of experience at a Part 70 licensee
Preferred Qualifications
  • Completion of a training program in the physics of criticality (ANSI/ANS 8.26)
  • Experience performing chemical dose consequence analyses
  • A Master’s Degree or PhD in Physics, Nuclear, or Chemical Engineering from an accredited institution
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license obtained by accredited examination
  • Monte Carlo computer code experience (MCNP or MONK preferred)
  • RASCAL, ALOHA, or similar code experience preferred for other disciplines

Work Schedule

Professional work schedule with minimal night/weekend support; some nights and weekend work may be required. Employees may be subject to call‑outs as needed.

Travel Required

10% of the time or less as required.

Security Clearance Requirement

Controlled Access Area (CAA) Access and an L or Q level security clearance is required.

Emergency Response Requirements

Emergency Response Organization (ERO) duty may be required, including being on‑call (24/7) during the designated team duty week.

Work Environment

Radiological exposure expectations; criticality safety, chemical dose consequence, and/or integrated safety analysis experience; experience in a 10 CFR Part 70 facility.

Primary Functions
  • Independently perform analysis and design activities in support of facility operations and future projects.
  • Perform nuclear criticality safety evaluations and analyses using modeling software.
  • Perform dose and shielding calculations.
  • Conduct independent design reviews of evaluations and analyses, including verification of assumptions and adequacy of calculations.
  • Ensure nuclear criticality safety limits, assumptions, and requirements are correctly implemented in operating procedures.
  • Provide final approval (release) of nuclear criticality safety technical documentation.
  • Establish and maintain effective nuclear criticality safety engineering standards within NRC regulatory requirements and Urenco USA design license basis documents.
  • Qualify and perform chemical dose consequence calculations.
  • Propose and implement changes for the facility.

Compensation starting at: $98,761 – $146,169 per year, dependent on candidate qualifications.
