Location: Tohatchi

Summary

Serves as a clinical pharmacist providing direct pharmaceutical care for patients within the Indian Health Service. The position is the major source of pharmaceutical clinical information and is expected to manage selected patients with chronic disease states while also providing care for acute patients.

Duties / Responsibilities
  • Interpret and dispense prescribed products ensuring proper labeling, directions and precautions.
  • Assist patients managing conditions such as diabetes, asthma, high blood pressure and other chronic illnesses.
  • Provide information about drug therapy, interactions, side effects, dosage and proper medication storage.
  • Maintain pharmacy records, patient files, inventories and narcotics/controlled drug control records.
  • Compound and dispense medications as prescribed, calculating, weighing, measuring and mixing ingredients.
  • Serve as a pharmacy consultant and advisor to committees such as the therapeutic agents committee, hospital research committee and infection control committee.
Requirements

Selected employees may be subject to a probationary period and are required to be U.S. citizens and registered with the Selective Service if applicable. They must pass E‑Verify, adhere to federal background and medical credential verification, and obtain direct deposit setup.

Qualifications
  • Pharmacy doctoral degree (Pharm.

    D.) recognized by ACPE or an equivalent accredited body.
  • Licensure:
    Pass NAPLEX, MPJE and hold a state, DC, Puerto Rico or U.S. territory pharmacy license.
  • Ability to distinguish basic colors.
  • Experience dispensing medications, evaluating medication use, providing clinical consultation, developing medication programs, maintaining records and researching clinical information.
  • At least 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a doctoral degree for GS‑11; or at least 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to GS‑11 for GS‑12.
Background Investigation

Selected candidates must undergo a pre‑employment fingerprint check and comprehensive background investigation. Employment is contingent upon clearance of the investigation. Candidates who provide false statements may be disqualified or terminated.

Education

A doctoral degree in pharmacy (Pharm.

D.) is required. Equivalent foreign education must be validated with a Certificate of Foreign Equivalency and transcript. Official transcripts are required for all selectees prior to an official offer.
