We are currently seeking to hire three (3) fulltime Range Safety Inspectors (RSI
s) for our Primary Training Range (PTR) site at Melrose Air Force Range (MAFR) near Clovis, NM to support range operations RSIs ensure safe and compliant execution of both military and non-military training, coordinate with range users, and serve as a critical link between operational units and Range Control leadership.
This PTR accommodates multiple types of air-to-surface, surface to air, and ground training and is 70,010 acres and contains target arrays, Military Operations in Urban Terrain (MOUT) sites, landing zones, dudded and inert impact areas, threat simulators, weapons scoring systems, and provides Service Class A and C range capabilities. We support DoD and non-interfering civilian agency training requirements, providing operations and maintenance to meet war-fighter training and readiness requirements.
We provide support for facility maintenance, aerial gunnery and bombing ranges, ground training ranges, MOUT sites, electronics / technology, scheduling, wildland fire management, paramedic, and Situational Force (SITFOR), to include all operations, maintenance and support (OM&S). Our site consists of an Electronic Warfare Range (EWR), air and ground ranges, ground training facilities, and administrative facilities.
In this role, you will be a key safety authority on the range, ensuring compliance with all applicable instructions, integrating air and ground training, and maintaining readiness for both scheduled and emergency operations.
Primary functions include (but may not be limited to):
- Serve as the on-site RSI from 30 minutes before range opening to range closing per normal operations hours.
- Support occasional overtime, after-hours operations (AOH), and no-notice emergency requirements.
- Submit a monthly RSI duty schedule to the COR at least 10 business days prior to the start of the month.
- Act as an adjunct to the Range Officer (RO), ensuring mission success under RO direction.
- Verify that all range activities are conducted by authorized personnel/organizations.
- Enforce compliance with all safety instructions, including weapons/ammunition inspections, troop certifications, and training event parameters.
- Oversee safe integration of air and ground training within MAFR restricted areas and boundaries.
- Inspect MOUT and other training sites to ensure they meet Range Management Office (RMO) standards and expectations for training purposes.
- Serve as liaison between range users and Range Control leadership for operational issues, maintenance integration, and range tours.
- Document and manage turnover of training areas and ranges, including pre- and post-event inspections.
- Provide safety expertise on direct-fire munitions, bombs, small arms, launchers, anti-tank weapons, mortars, mines, and air-to-ground gunnery.
