An Extrusion Technician's job involves setting up, operating, and maintaining equipment to produce extruded wire products, which includes monitoring extrusion processes, inspecting finished products for quality, performing minor equipment maintenance and repairs, and ensuring a clean and safe work environment. Key responsibilities include adjusting machine settings, managing materials, and adhering to production specifications and safety regulations.

Primary Responsibilities

• Equipment Operation:

  Operate and monitor wire extrusion machines, including setting controls for temperature, speed, and pressure, and installing dies, nozzles, and other components.

• Material Management:

  Load wire, materials, and pellets into machine hoppers and maintain an inventory of raw materials.

• Quality Control:

  Inspect and measure finished wire products to ensure they meet quality standards and specifications, and test their physical properties.

• Maintenance & Troubleshooting:

  Perform routine maintenance, clean equipment, and troubleshoot and make minor repairs to the machinery.

• Work Area & Safety:

  Maintain a clean and organized work area and ensure compliance with safety regulations.

• Documentation:

  Read and understand work orders, blueprints, and part prints to accurately produce products.

Skills and Qualifications

• Technical Skills:

  Mechanical aptitude, ability to operate and maintain extrusion equipment, and proficiency with hand tools, gauges, and measurement devices like calipers.

• Educational Background:

  High school diploma or GED is generally required, with vocational or technical training in areas like machining or material science often beneficial.

• Soft Skills:

  Strong attention to detail, ability to follow instructions, good communication skills, and the capacity to work efficiently in a team or independently.

• Physical Demands:

  Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting up to 50 pounds, as well as stamina for long periods of operation.
