Maintenance Technician / Water Operator Apprentice

Job Description

The Maintenance Technician / Water Operator Apprentice is responsible for installing water meters and new water lines on the village's drinking water distribution system.

They will repair water leaks in the drinking water distribution system during emergency situations as requested by customers or as specified on daily work orders.

Additionally, they will repair wastewater sewer lines and install new lines.

The role involves maintaining a perpetual parts inventory of water meters, plumbing fittings, parts, and accessories.

Constant communication with the Central Office is required, along with readiness to respond to water or sewer repair emergencies.

The technician will rotate and be on standby as scheduled to respond to water and sewer emergencies during evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Operating heavy equipment such as backhoes, skid loaders, and dump trucks is part of the job.

Performing first-echelon maintenance on all vehicles and equipment, including inspecting fluid levels, tire pressures, and drive belts, is necessary to ensure safety and proper operation.

Maintaining daily vehicle manifests and completing necessary inspections are required.

Coordination with 811 Call Locate New Mexico and local telephone companies is essential to identify existing utility lines before excavation or repairs.

Installing safety signage and barriers according to OSHA and Department of Transportation regulations is part of the responsibilities.

The technician will perform monthly meter readings by driving designated routes and submitting readings promptly.

Monitoring water wells by taking daily readings to ensure proper chlorination levels is also required.

Assisting Wastewater Treatment Plant Operators with daily functions and responsibilities as assigned is part of the duties.

Other duties include winter snow removal, weed and trash abatement around village offices and property.

All duties must comply with village policies, employee manual, ordinances, and resolutions.
