STS New Mexico LLCThe Mechanic is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining school buses and other district vehicles to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient transportation operations. This role plays a critical part in supporting student transportation by maintaining vehicles in compliance with all applicable safety and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities Perform preventative maintenance, inspections, and repairs on school buses, support vehicles, and transportation equipment.

Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, brake, steering, suspension, heating, and engine-related issues.

Conduct routine safety inspections to ensure vehicles meet federal, state, and local transportation regulations.

Communicate with drivers and transportation staff regarding vehicle performance concerns and maintenance needs.

Complete work orders, inspection reports, maintenance records, and repair documentation accurately and timely.

Perform scheduled maintenance services, including fluid changes, tune-ups, brake service, tire maintenance, and component replacements.

Assist with preparing repair estimates and identifying parts required for maintenance and repair activities.

Respond to road calls, emergency repairs, and vehicle breakdowns as needed.

Maintain shop tools, equipment, and work areas in a clean, organized, and safe condition.

Follow district policies, maintenance procedures, and workplace safety standards.

Participate in required technical and safety training.

Support transportation operations and perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required.

One (1) year of experience in bus, diesel, automotive, fleet, truck, or heavy equipment maintenance preferred.

Knowledge of diesel engines, electrical systems, brakes, steering, suspension, and preventative maintenance practices.

Ability to diagnose mechanical and electrical issues and perform repairs efficiently.

Ability to maintain accurate maintenance and inspection records.

Strong problem-solving and communication skills.

Valid driver's license required.

CDL with School Bus and Passenger endorsements preferred or ability to obtain within a specified timeframe.
