Description

Why extraordinary teachers teach at LFNO

Lycée is a Type II charter school in New Orleans, that is the only PreK-4-12th public, accredited French school in North America. We are committed to learning, being receptive to feedback, and collaborating with all stakeholders to shape a rigorous, joy-filled, and equitable learning environment.

We guide our students to think critically and independently, and we teach a rich curriculum that nurtures students' natural curiosity about the world.

Role and Responsibilities

The High School Teacher will be responsible for implementing a curriculum that emphasizes enrichment, accelerated higher-level thinking skills (both critical and abstract), multi-disciplinary content, and a higher degree of complexity than the regular classroom. Students participate in independent and group units of study of varying lengths that are assessed using a teacher-devised rubric. Through this programming, students are moved out of their comfort zone into areas where they are challenged to grow academically, personally, and socially.

To the degree possible, instruction is delivered in French, using hands-on, experiential lessons and projects that increase motivation and self-awareness in order to prepare our students for the 21st century digital age.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver engaging lessons that follow rigorous, standards-aligned curriculum and support elements of the other subject curriculum in collaboration with those teachers.
  • Use formal and informal assessment data to drive instruction and ensure student mastery of standards; maintain accurate and current grades.
  • Target instruction in students’ development of reading, writing, critical thinking, and oral language skills.
  • Shape culturally-responsive and anti-racist learning experiences through the lens of D.E.I.
  • Build a warm and inclusive classroom environment, implementing the practices of restorative justice and trauma-informed instruction. (LFNO is a PBIS school).
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with a diverse population of students, families, and colleagues.
  • Thrive while collaborating and receiving feedback from colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Accept ultimate responsibility for the academic progress of students, and work actively to overcome challenges.
  • Participate in Student Assistance Team (SAT) meetings as needed.
  • Participate in faculty meetings and professional learning/collaborative work sessions.
  • Perform other job-related functions as may be assigned, be punctual, and review/follow all Staff Handbook policies and procedures.

Staff collaboration and reporting relationships

All teachers primarily plan and deliver instruction across one or two grade levels; the team works collaboratively with all grade level colleagues to scaffold instruction and guide departmental goals. Teachers will work closely with departmental and grade level colleagues.

LFNO is a culturally diverse workplace; collaboration, empathy, and cooperation are essential at all levels.

  • Effectively communicate with school administrators, teachers, student service personnel, and parents regarding student performance and plans for improvement.
  • Participate in faculty meetings and professional learning communities meetings.
  • Assist in orientation, open houses, and other school events as needed.
  • Model non-discriminatory practices in all activities.
  • Produce performance-based activities to support school initiatives.
  • Maintain an inventory, control the storage and use of department property, and oversee the working condition of said equipment.
  • Be punctual, review, and follow all Staff Handbook policies and procedures.

  • Ability to maintain confidential files and information.
