English Teacher / ESL TEFL, Special Education Teacher, Special Needs / Learning Disabilities, Teacher Assistant/ Paraprofessional
About This Role
We currently have four high schools in New Orleans and one high school in Baton Rouge, and we are hiring English teachers in both cities. Teachers must be deeply committed to creating a classroom culture where 100% of your students are engaged in rigorous lessons aligned to the college ready bar.
Our Approach to English: We design our approach to English to be inclusive and ambitious while prioritizing choice and ownership. We aim to have the texts and topics we tackle show a wide range of different voices and perspectives. We believe that all students deserve to engage in these conversations and texts, and work to provide supports that allow all students of all abilities access to them.
Though we do follow a curriculum that includes challenging texts, we also give students multiple ways to demonstrate their understanding through different assessment options and emphasize independent reading to extend the skills learned in class.
Courses are all aligned to Common Core standards or Advanced Placement requirements. They include English I, II, II, IV, AP Literature and AP Language and Composition.
Teacher Development at Collegiate AcademiesAt CA
, our teachers never stop learning and never stop growing. Here’s how:
- Our approach to teacher development at CA is focused on individual goals and growth combined with a high degree of individualized support.
- Every teacher has a coach, and you will collaboratively, with your coach, create your growth goals and determine the plan that will see you hit those goals.
- There are some things in common with other teachers at your school -- school goals, school priorities, school-based PD, etc.
-- but it is in your relationship with your coach where you will translate those things into what you specifically need to meet those goals yourself. - You will also grow year over year as an expert in your content in collaboration with your peers across the network through content-specific professional development and data investigations.
- There is an additional layer of support for first year teachers called the CA Teacher Residency (CATR), which is an intensified, pre-service and coaching plan to develop you in the skills that we have seen that make rookie teachers most successful in their first year at CA.
About Collegiate Academies: Collegiate Academies prepares all students for lives of unlimited opportunity. Founded in 2008, Collegiate Academies serves over 3,000 students in five public high schools and two postsecondary programs in New Orleans and Baton Rouge. We serve a dramatically higher proportion of students with special needs, students who are English language learners, and students who are from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.
We see the individual greatness of every student who comes through our doors.
