Overview
Professional, technical and supervisory work developing, coordinating and implementing a hazardous materials and waste management plans and projects for the Sewerage and Water Board. Duties include performing the more difficult, complex and responsible assignments including specialized investigations and inspections of solid, liquid and hazardous materials/waste facilities and ensuring compliance with laws and ordinances governing hazardous materials. Responsibilities also include contract preparation, control, monitoring and compliance related to hazardous materials and waste management remediation.
The role involves organizing training programs, researching, planning and presenting in-house staff training on hazardous materials and solid waste issues and technology, and related work as required.
- Perform difficult, complex, and responsible assignments related to hazardous materials and waste management.
- Conduct specialized investigations and inspections of solid, liquid, and hazardous materials/waste facilities to obtain compliance with applicable laws and ordinances.
- Prepare, control, monitor and ensure compliance of contracts related to hazardous materials and waste management remediation.
- Organize and conduct training programs; research, plan and present in-house staff training on hazardous materials and solid waste issues and technology.
- Perform related work as required.
- A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Construction Management, Engineering, Environmental Science, Information Technology, Geology, Chemistry, Biology or related field; or a Master’s Degree in Urban Planning, Public Administration, Business Administration, or a related field.
- AND EITHER
- Six (6) years of professional construction or technical project management experience, with two years in solid, liquid or hazardous waste management, environmental inspections, industrial remediation practices, or a research and resource recovery program in a hazardous materials and/or solid waste program.
- OR Possession of a current Project Management Professional Certification (PMP) and three (3) additional years of project management experience earned after PMP, with two years in solid, liquid or hazardous waste management, environmental inspections, industrial remediation practices, or a hazardous materials and/or solid waste program.
- EPA RCRA Hazardous Generator Training
- OSHA 40 hour HAZWOPER Training
- DOT Hazardous Materials Training
- Certified Asbestos Inspector (LDEQ)
- Certified Lead Paint Inspector (LDEQ)
- Note:
Domicile requirements are currently waived for applications. Residency requirements are waived for Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans positions vacant and advertised for at least 90 days. Some exceptions may be made on a case-by-case basis. Apply and discuss domicile needs during interview. - The recruitment includes a rating of training and experience (100%), with credit for related experience typically limited to the last ten years. This is an original entrance examination.
