Industrial Safety Specialist
The Industrial Safety Specialist will support the space program located in New Orleans, LA.
RESPONSIBILITIES- Support the NASA Michoud Assembly Facility (MAF) Safety Manager in all aspects of industrial safety administration to include OSHA/Risk management practices and interpreting compliance standards.
- Provide key safety consultations to NASA-MAF SMA, NASA Contractor Safety professionals and commercial tenant leadership.
- Support the Mishap Investigation Program for the Michoud Assembly Facility.
- Perform Mishap and Injury investigations, including identification of corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.
- Enter mishaps into the NASA Mishap Information System (NMIS).
- Verify corrective actions are complete, including objective evidence including pictures, presentations, certifications, etc. prior to closing mishap cases in the NMIS database.
- Track injury and mishaps metrics so that emerging trends can be communicated to NASA Leadership.
- Serve as consultant to the Michoud Emergency and Incident Response Team and a member of the Emergency Exercise Coordination Team.
- Support the SHE Inspection Program for the Michoud Assembly Facility.
- Administer the Safe Suite database by reviewing and approving inspection findings.
- Conduct spot inspections.
- Tracking and trending inspection findings for presentation to MAF Leadership.
- Conduct AS9100 quality audits of the Component Processing Facility.
- Lead and/or participate in joint risk assessments of new processes, facility, and construction projects to identify potential hazards and mitigations.
- Support the SHE Committee and MTM meeting with MAF presentations detailing key Safety information to MFSC and MAF leadership.
- Support bi-monthly NASA-MAF leadership and MAF S&MA safety spot inspections.
- Participate in MAF Design Reviews, Flight Readiness Reviews and provide comments regarding safety issues or concerns.
- Complete safety procedure review and comment for compliance to federal, state, local, and NASA requirements to include the review of lifting plans and procedures.
- Other duties as assigned by NASA agency and/or onsite management.

- This position requires US Citizenship due to the sensitivity of customer related information.
- This position requires a Secret Clearance, or the ability to obtain one.
- Must have a bachelor's degree in the field of occupational health and safety or a related field (e.g., engineering, chemistry, environmental science).
- Must have 2+ years of recent and related work experience.
- In lieu of degree:
Candidates with 6+ years of recent and related work experience will be considered. - Ability to develop and present PowerPoint presentations and Data trending/matrix with Microsoft applications.
- Prior experience performing OSHA inspections and accident investigations.
- Experience using hazard data bases (e.g., SHETRAK, Safe Suite, or similar).
- Hold Certified Safety Professional certification.
- Experience and or training in Root Cause Analysis.
- Training in OSHA 510 OSHA standards for Construction Industry.
- Training in OSHA 511 OSHA standards for General Industry.
- Certification or documented experience in Fire Inspection and/or Electrical Inspection.
- Experience performing quality surveillance.
- This position is located onsite; some travel may be required.
- Schedules are subject to change based on the requirements of the position and/or customer needs.

DRUG AND ALCOHOL SCREENING REQUIREDAll Bastion employees must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and are required to participate in periodic random drug and alcohol screenings.
STANDARD BASTION REQUIREMENTS- Must have experience with Microsoft Office Suite, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and TEAMS.

- Able to communicate effectively, verbally and in written form, with internal and external customers.
- Able to follow company programs, processes, procedures, practices, requirements, goals, and objectives.
- Must be organized with good time management skills and must be able to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements.
- Generally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on the task.
- Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of the time) and may require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of the time).
- Regular attendance in accordance with an established work schedule is critical.
