Substation Design Engineer – Entergy
Entergy is hiring a Senior Substation Design Engineer located in New Orleans, LA. This position collaborates with Transmission Engineering teams to deliver high‑quality substation designs, oversee contractor execution, and support the reliability and asset management functions across the utility.
Responsibilities- Coordinate and provide oversight for Grid and Project Management & Control (PM&C) portfolios of contracted work.
- Validate detailed engineering analyses and designs for transmission‑related areas.
- Contribute to early‑stage (0‑2) project development and independent engineering work requiring advanced judgment.
- Apply engineering principles, best practices, and internal/external business knowledge to solve problems, develop cost‑effective solutions, and improve products or services.
- Direct, mentor junior staff, and oversee engineering work on multiple projects.
- Ensure compliance with applicable industry standards (e.g., NERC, SERC) and other utility regulations.
- Collaborate with other disciplines within Transmission and other company units to achieve stated goals.
- Assist with storm/emergency restoration efforts when required.
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil) from an accredited institution.
- PE or MS preferred; PE preferred.
- Senior Engineer: 6+ years in an engineering discipline.
- Senior Engineer Lead: 10+ years without a PE/MS or 8+ years with a PE/MS.
- Process improvement recognition and change implementation.
- Excellent project management skills.
- Expert in substation design with recognized expertise internally and externally.
- Strategic technical leadership in specialized expertise area.
- Effective mentorship and leadership of engineering teams.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, written, and oral skills.
- Ability to manage multiple activities, changing priorities, and work well under pressure.
- Commitment to safety and adherence to Entergy safety policies.
