Job DescriptionAECOM has a position opening for a Protection and Controls Engineer to support our growing Energy Business Line’s Engineering Center of Excellence in our Grid Modernization programs, projects and pursuits. Our team provides electrical engineering services across transmission, power distribution, renewables, and next generation energy. We are looking for an engineer with a protection and controls background to promote our skills to new clients and maintain our existing client base.
The successful candidate will have an understanding and experience in electrical engineering design and technology principles. They should work well in a team, communicate effectively with project members and customers, demonstrate initiative, motivation, attention to detail, and drive for getting things done.
Responsibilities- Act as the electrical P&C lead and engineer of record for substations, switchyards and other electrical infrastructure projects (greenfield and brownfield).
- Responsible for the electrical engineering design work on assigned projects.
- Collaborate with the Project Engineer and Project Manager to develop design schedules and budgets for electrical engineering work activities.
- Perform power system studies and system protection settings coordination for various projects.
- Generate basis of design documentation for protection settings and relay configurations.
- Support projects during construction, start-up, and commissioning.
- Review engineering work performed by peers.
- Attend client meetings and coordinate with stakeholders.
- Occasional travel to client or project sites (data gathering and field walks).
- Mentor early career engineers and facilitate internal training sessions, if requested.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering and 6 years of relevant protection and controls experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) license required.
Preferred Qualifications
- 10 years of related experience with at least 2 years as project lead.
- Knowledge of FERC and NERC requirements.
- Experience with IEC
61850. - Experience working with remote teams.
- Experience on full EPC, Design/Build projects from start to finish.
- Plant startup and commissioning field experience.
- Power systems analysis software experience (SKM, Easy Power, Etap).
- Relay coordination using ASPEN One Liner.
- Experience developing native relay setting files.
- Distribution automation experience.
- Experience in collaborative 3D model environments (e.g., Navisworks).
- Relocation assistance is not available for this role.
