Job Description:
The Department of Physics & Astronomy at Louisiana State University conducts forefront scientific research in (astro-)particle, nuclear and condensed matter physics. We seek an electronics engineer that will work with a multidisciplinary team of faculty and staff to develop, implement and maintain instrumentation for scientific research. The candidate will have the opportunity to participate in the dissemination of information related to the projects by contributing to the writing of articles and participation at conferences.
** Responsibilities:
*** Serve as supervisor of the Electronics Development Group (EDG) and manager of the Department of Physics and Astronomy's Technical Services Group. Advise and consult on decisions affecting the service center. Manage workflow of the EDG. Perform budgeting and strategic planning. Participate in hiring, counseling, and training of employees (35%).
* The candidate will work within and lead an electronics team in close collaboration with many academics and other specialists on electronics, software, mechanics, and physics to address the challenges of readout electronics for physics experiments. Such systems may include analog and digital electronics, hardware/software co-design, embedded processors, field programmable gate arrays (FPGA), complex programmable logic devices (CPLD), data acquisition systems, and electronic monitoring/control systems(25%).
* The selected candidate will have to define the specifications for the digital/analogue electronics cards, develop them from component selection, schematics, dimensioning and simulation to routing, prototyping, production and testing. The candidate will be expected to provide assistance with the commissioning and operation of these electronics cards and the systems that they integrate with (25%).
* Recommend, write specifications for and coordinate procurement of electronic and computer components, instruments and systems (10%).
* Other related duties incidental to the work described above (5%).

* Minimum qualifications:
** Bachelor's degree in Engineering and 3 years of related experience

* Preferred qualifications:
** Master's degree with experience in the design, simulation and implementation of analog and digital electronics.
Experience with scientific or technical instruments. Experience in project planning.
