Surgical Recovery Specialist – Organ and Tissue
Join NJ Sharing Network as a Surgical Recovery Specialist. Work in organ and tissue recovery, ensuring the operating room is set up with sufficient supplies, maintaining a sterile field, and performing perfusion, packaging, and labeling procedures following regulatory requirements. Responsible for organ recovery for research, post‑mortem care, and training new recovery staff.
Duties and Responsibilities- Pack supplies for organ recovery cases.
- Prepare the operating room and back table with required containers, packaging, tubing, and solutions.
- Ensure sterile technique pre‑ and post‑recovery and retrieve equipment.
- Prepare body for organ recovery, including photographs for the medical examiner.
- Perfuse, package, and label organs and handle tissue typing.
- Recover organs for research and assist with post‑mortem care.
- Accompany transplant teams on organ import fly/drive outs and participate in paired kidney exchanges.
- Prepare kidney pumps, cannulate, place kidneys on pump, monitor and ice kidneys, and transport kidneys to transplant centers.
- Assist with transport of organs and transplant teams.
- Perform tissue recovery: assess donor tissue, prepare, move or lift donor, complete surgical recovery, prepare back table, receive and culture tissue, package per processor SOPs.
- Follow regulatory requirements (FDA, AATB, NJ Sharing Network).
- Perform office duties (preparing trays, disposing waste, courier functions) and attend mandatory meetings.
- Conduct kidney biopsy telepathology functions (communication, preparation, dissection, imaging, upload).
- May be cross‑trained in other areas as needed.
- Perform duties as assigned based on training and clinical needs.
- High School degree or equivalent (required).
- 1–2 years experience in tissue surgical recovery or organ perfusion, or as a surgical technician.
- Encouraged to obtain Certified Transplant Perfusionist (CTP) or Certified Tissue Bank Specialist (CTBS) certification.
Salary: $60,615.00 – $97,000.00 (based on market pay structures).
