General SummaryAssess, prep, and perform tissue recovery, packaging, and labeling of tissues using sterile technique according to accrediting agencies and processors standards. Coordinates the scheduling of operating rooms, ensuring sufficient and appropriate materials and supplies. Primarily coordinates all facets of a tissue recovery case following authorization and donor screening. Coordinates allocation of staff and resources, perfusion packaging, and arranging transport of donor and tissue.
Ensures all documentation is complete during and following the tissue recovery. Assists with training Recovery Specialists. Participates in research projects. This position requires 12‑hour shifts and is required to work extended periods when needed, including overnight shifts, weekends, and holidays. Responsible for timely compliance with all Network programs and policies.
- Receives case and completes a thorough chart review.
- Assembles additional team members and makes assignments.
- Schedules the Operating Room.
- Dispatches courier when needed.
- Packs supplies according to the accepting processor.
- Performs site assessment and prepares the Operating Room for the case.
- Receives the donor and performs a physical assessment.
- Prepares donor for surgical recovery, including moving and lifting the donor to the Operating Table.
- Prepares back table according to processor SOP. Receives, cultures, and packages/labels tissue appropriately.
- Performs tissue recovery including, but not limited to, skin, bone, soft tissue, tendons, fascia, costal cartilage, heart for valves, and saphenous veins, according to processors SOP.
- Documents concurrently during the case.
- Ensures the team complies with all best practices and that sterile technique is followed.
- Completes post‑mortem care.
- Arranges transportation or ensures the donors return to the morgue.
- Clean the Operating Room once recovery is completed.
- Returns supplies to the appropriate location and performs post‑case responsibilities and documentation, including shipping of tissue.
- Communicates and collaborates with the Managers/Directors, Donation Resource Center, and Clinical Administrator On Call, as necessary.
- Follows all regulatory requirements, standards, policies, and procedures set forth by the FDA, AATB, NJ Sharing Network, and any other regulatory or accrediting agency.
- Performs office duties as assigned, including but not limited to preparing trays for sterilization, disposal of medical waste, courier functions, monitoring organs on perfusion devices, assist with store room activities, and preparing frozen section samples for pathology.
- May perform triage responsibilities such as assessing donation and transportation related needs for the department and allocates staff and resources appropriately. Equitably distributes assignments.
- Attends mandatory all staff, department, inter‑department and team meetings.
- Serves as preceptor for new staff.
- May be cross‑trained in other areas as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned based on training, expertise and needs of the organization.
- A High School diploma or equivalent is required.
- Certified Tissue Bank Specialist (CTBS) is preferred and required after one year in the role.
- One to two years of experience as a surgical technologist or equivalent/related experience is strongly preferred.
- Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) preferred.
- Knowledge of anatomy and sterile technique is strongly preferred.

Shifts:
Three 12.5‑hour shifts per week. - Additional Shift: A fourth on‑call shift is scheduled every other week, depending on activity and operational needs.
- Coverage:
Includes day shift (6:45 AM – 7:15 PM) and overnight shift (6:45 PM – 7:15 AM), weekends, and holidays, all on a rotational basis. - Training
Schedule:
For the first 4–6 weeks, you’ll work Monday–Friday, 9 AM–5 PM, before moving to the standard schedule.
Hourly: $28.11 – $42.15
