Position Summary
The Discipleship & Outreach Pastor is a relational leader that plays a critical role in our mission to build a community that seeks to know, love, and follow Jesus and share Jesus with others. The Discipleship & Outreach Pastor is a catalyst for genuine community and intentional discipleship. This person should have a heart for helping people take the next step to grow in their faith, connecting people in Christian community, and equipping the church to serve others both within the church and out in the community.
The Discipleship & Outreach Pastor will create a warm and invitational culture and build bridges with families in the community. They will also collaborate with ministry teams and nurture strong relationships within the church.
1. Connect
Oversee NPPC’s pathway to connect and engage people in the life of the church. Develop and maintain personal relationships with newcomers and church members to understand their needs and encourage involvement. Work with the Hospitality Team, Greeters, and Ushers to encourage a warm and welcoming environment.
2. Grow
Develop and lead NPPC’s Growth Pathway which allows people to take the next step in their faith. Recruit, train, coach, and support small group leaders to ensure they are well-equipped to lead. Oversee the Adult and Family Discipleship team and together create, evaluate, and implement discipleship opportunities.
3. Serve
Create and lead an effective process to engage people in serving in the church and broader community . Encourage members to discover and use their unique spiritual gifts in service as an overflow of their personal discipleship. Collaborate with leaders to recruit, train, coach, and support volunteers in their roles.
4. Care
Oversee Caring Ministry Leadership Team and the Deacons in providing care for the church community. Work with the Caring Ministry Leadership Team to train and encourage the Deacons and to ensure all church members and regular attenders have a caring and welcoming relationship to the NPPC church body.
Additional Responsibilities- Work with the lead pastor and session of elders to advance strategic planning toward our mission and vision.
- Perform pastoral service including regular worship leadership, preaching, baptisms, pastoral care, and occasional weddings and funerals, and other pastoral duties.
- Participate in regular meetings with staff, session, and lead pastor.
- Provide leadership in the development and management of the annual budget.
- Support the communications efforts of the church to expand outreach to the community and to inform the congregation of opportunities to participate and serve.
- A passionate personal relationship with Jesus Christ, with a clear testimony of faith. A personal commitment to grow spiritually, obey God’s Word, and show His love. Commitment to invite and guide others into a deepening relationship with God.
- Proven ability both to champion a compelling ministry vision and to strategically implement that vision via strong organizational skills to design and manage effective systems, processes, and metrics.
- Demonstrated experience in developing, coaching, and mentoring others in their spiritual and leadership journeys.
- Solid interpersonal skills to build positive relationships with individuals and teams.
- Demonstrates the ability to work collaboratively within a team environment and is committed to supporting the overall mission and vision of the church.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Highly self‑motivated to achieve ministry goals and objectives.
- A Master of Divinity from an accredited seminary and 2 years of pastoral ministry experience, or 5 years of comparable experience. Note - this is an Assistant Pastor position with an opportunity for advancement to Associate Pastor possible, but not guaranteed.
- Pastoral ordination is strongly preferred. However, we would also consider a candidate with different experience who demonstrates the core competencies. A candidate who has a willingness to be ordained within ECO strongly preferred.
