POSITION SUMMARY

The Visual Effects Supervisor is the creative lead for the studio and responsible for the bidding, design and execution of visual effects work on all projects. Along with the production team, the VFX Supervisor is responsible for the management and successful completion of projects within set schedule and budget parameters.

The VFX Supervisor, along with the VFX Producer, communicates with clients from initial contact, through shot creation and delivery. The Visual Effects Supervisor will support sales efforts for potential new projects. This includes script reading and breakdown, project time/budget estimation, attending first contact meetings/calls with potential clients and ability to speak definitively and clearly about the studio’s creative capabilities, resources and culture.

MAIN

DUTIES

The VFX Supervisor is responsible for VFX supervision, both on set and/or in house through post, with high creative and technical standards, thorough understanding of VFX pipeline and strong creative integrity. They will be responsible for maintaining creative relations with given clients, establishing strong client confidence, and bidding shots in collaboration with VFX Producer, flagging overages both on set and/or through post.

They are also responsible for the following:

  • Outlining show requirements involving team size, team strengths and resources
  • Establishing and helping to execute show pipeline procedure if unique to given show.
  • Communicating show expectations and creative direction with VFX artists
  • Supervising VFX artists as needed, in coordination with the CG Supervisor and Compositing Supervisor for a given project.
  • Overseeing all aspects of VFX shots throughout postproduction, from turnover to final delivery.
  • Serving as an active participant in the sales initiative in his/her market.
  • May be required to travel from time to time for set, meetings, and entertainment.
  • Will be a key member of the team and responsible for helping to maintain an inviting and safe place to work.
WHAT YOU BRING

The ideal candidate will have prior on-the-box experience in CG or Comp, as well as experience in episodic vs film schedule and quality bar. On-set experience is a plus, including working as a department head, show budgeting, and working with/managing data wranglers, second unit. They will have a stellar creative eye and “big picture” aesthetic judgment, with an emphasis on composition, cinematic design, and animation timing.

They will have a thorough understanding of the visual effects process and the ability to interpret the artistic brief from the Director / Studio Visual Effects Supervisor and bring prior experience managing all aspects of visual effects, including bidding, script breakdowns, scheduling, and pipeline. Additional desired skills include:

  • Ability to work and meet strict deadlines under pressure.
  • Excellent organizational, communicational and project management skills.
  • Good technical understanding of computer graphics pipelines and the ability to specify efficient workflows and identify additional tools required.
  • Excellent knowledge or understanding of current, cutting‑edge industry toolsets.
  • Ability to travel for job‑related activities including studio or client meetings, on‑set work, or in between offices during a project's VFX production phase.
