The Carl Andre and Melissa L. Kretschmer Foundation seeks an Editor to lead the preparation of the definitive catalogue raisonné of Carl Andre Sculptures. The catalogue raisonné will eventually be published in both book and digital formats.

The Editor will draw upon the Foundation’s extensive archival holdings developed during more than a decade of preparation for this seminal publication, including earlier catalogue raisonné efforts.

The Editor will work closely with the staffs at the Foundation, Paula Cooper Gallery, and Konrad Fischer Gallery, as well as the team at Cahiers d’Art Institute, which will provide editorial and technical support and eventually publish the catalogue.

The Editor will also help to form and lead meetings of the Carl Andre Catalogue Raisonné Committee, an advisory body of scholars and experts meant to support the catalogue efforts.

Salary range: $50,000–$70,000

Position Details
  • Refine existing databases of Carl Andre artworks, exhibitions, publications, and collectors
  • Source materials from museums, galleries, collectors, and other art institutions to further develop the Carl Andre CR archival holdings
  • Lead ongoing provenance research
  • Work with the gallery staffs and other collaborators to source and clear rights for catalogue images
  • Form and lead meetings of the Carl Andre Catalogue Raisonné Committee
  • Develop a catalogue raisonné style guide and define parameters of the publication
  • In time, transition project from research phase into publication phase and lead editorial efforts to complete the catalogue raisonné in both book and digital formats
Background and Qualifications
  • Advanced degree in Art History, Art Criticism, Art Theory, and/or Library Science
  • Expertise in late 20th century American art, and minimal and conceptual art in particular
  • Passion for archival, library, and database research
  • Comfort and experience with major databases and content management systems
  • A patient, easygoing collaborator with a diplomatic manner
  • Prior experience on a catalogue raisonné preferred
  • Ability to work in New York preferred
