Pay Rate: $30-35 per hour

As an Editorial Intern on the Books & Bookazines team, you will support the editorial process from concept through production - gaining real-world publishing experience while contributing meaningfully to Hearst's book and special issue (bookazine) portfolio. This "small-but-mighty" team consists of 8 individuals - a group publisher, two editors, two art directors, a photo editor, a managing editor, and a marketing coordinator - who develop 100+ projects each year, with the help of outside contractors and freelancers.

This intern will be part of the Neurodiversity@Hearst program, a paid, full-time 15-week internship program for neurodivergent/autistic talent interested in enhancing their technical skills. From June 2nd - September 11th, 2026, interns will participate in an immersive, hands-on experience at a leading global, diversified media, information, and services company. This cohort will include interns at Hearst Television, Fitch Group, Hearst Magazines and Hearst Corporate.

The reasonable estimate for this position is $30-35/hour. This will be a hybrid role based in NYC, with four days working in the office (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday) and one day working remotely (Friday).

What You'll Do

As an Editorial Intern on the Books & Bookazines team, you will:
  • Support editorial tasks such as researching, fact-checking, editing, and reviewing content from our archives with the purpose of identifying content appropriate for use within our books or bookazines
  • Learn about the publishing process from idea development through to final production
  • Help with outreach efforts for books and special publications, including creating mailing lists or emailing or calling potential partners, and development of Instagram posts
  • Join team meetings, share your ideas, and give feedback on projects - with guidance from your manager
  • The Books & Bookazines team supports communication in the way that works best for you-assignments may be provided verbally or in writing, depending on your preference.
What You'll Bring
  • Previous experience with publishing is preferred, but not required. We encourage candidates with backgrounds in storytelling, writing, editing, or media to also apply. You may be a good fit if you:
  • Are interested in learning and asking questions to better understand your role and tasks such as writing, researching or working on creative projects (blogging, fanfiction, class work, etc.)
  • Come to meetings having reviewed materials and provides ideas, feedback, or questions through spoken or written communication
  • Pay attention to instructions and check details before getting started-for example, reading an email fully before beginning a task
  • Ability to work independently or collaboratively on assignments collaborating
  • Ability to communicate expectations, updates and concerns clearly
