JOB SUMMARY

The EHS Assistant Teacher assists in the planning and implementation of classroom activities for Early Head Start children. This role involves working closely with the lead teacher to support the developmental needs of children and engaging with families to foster a collaborative learning environment.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist in the supervision of children.
  • Supervise the planning and execution of a program that takes into account the social, developmental, and health needs of the group, as well as the individual child.
  • Observe and record children’s behavior and development.
  • Collaborate with the Group Teacher to create developmentally appropriate weekly lesson plans.
  • Assist the Group Teacher in developing and maintaining a positive working relationship with families.
  • Participate in scheduled meetings with families, colleagues, and the school's interdisciplinary team.
  • Perform other related duties, as assigned, consistent with the above and including the fulfillment of the program.
  • Maintain professional and ethical standards.
  • Maintain confidentiality in accordance with agency policy and legal requirements.
  • Be honest, reliable, and dependable.
  • Respect and maintain the rights and privacy of all staff, parents, and children.
  • Attend mandated trainings and meetings and seek out staff development opportunities.
  • Work as a team member with all staff and maintain a positive work ethic.
  • Act conscientiously in performing routine duties.
  • QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s or Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education preferred.
  • Experience working with families and children ages birth to five.
  • Knowledge of Creative Curriculum and Teaching Strategies Gold preferred.
  • KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Ability to write using correct grammar, spelling, and punctuation; and to organize documents accurately.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with community members and groups, managers, regulatory agencies, and families both individually and in group settings.
