Director of Education

Queens Herald Church is seeking a Director of Education to lead its education-related ministries, including Children Sunday School, Children Summer Camp and other programs that the QHC Governance Board may decide to develop. The candidate must hold a Bachelor of Arts in Education, possess a valid NYS teacher certification, and have at least 3 years of experience supervising children’s programs in a church setting.

Sound theological knowledge is required.

Compensation & Benefits: $60,000–64,000 per annum with competitive benefits for the area

The Director of Education shall lead, supervise and develop QHC’s education ministries, overseeing all aspects of ministry operations, program development, volunteer recruitment, child safety, administration, organization, budgeting, and family engagement. The role requires spiritual leadership, model Christlike character for teachers, children, families, and staff, and fostering growth within the Children Committee.

Responsibilities
  • Cast and communicate a clear vision for the children’s ministry aligned with the church’s mission.
  • Oversee volunteer recruitment, training, child safety, program development, family engagement, administration, organization, and budgeting.
  • Provide spiritual leadership and Christlike model for teachers, children, and families.
  • Support and empower members of the Children Committee.
  • Collaborate with the Children’s Sunday School Committee to search, plan, and implement age-appropriate biblical curriculum.
  • Plan, develop, and implement programs and curriculum consistent with church doctrine.
  • Form the Children Summer Camp core team, ensuring teamwork culture and compliance with DOB and DOH requirements.
  • Ensure all certificates and licenses are updated and meet DOH requirements.
  • Manage registration, promotion, staff recruitment, facilities, safety, and budgeting for summer camp.
  • Provide care, support, coaching, and spiritual leadership for camp staff, students, and families.
Character & Spiritual Maturity
  • Must be a Christian who abides by QHC’s values and mission.
  • Clear vocational calling into children’s and education ministries.
  • Trustworthy with high moral character and integrity.
  • Demonstrate intimate relationship with God, continual personal development, and spiritual growth.
  • Maintain a healthy family and marital life (if married).
Experience & Credibility
  • Bachelor of Arts in Education or valid NYS teacher license with at least 3 years of leading and supervising children’s programs in a church setting.
  • Seminary degree or training with special needs experience is a plus.
  • At least 24 weeks of previous administrative or supervisory experience in camping or equivalent.
  • Must receive State Central Register Database Clearance (SCR) and complete Criminal Conviction Statement.
  • Commit to applying for QHC membership after three months of service.

  • Effective and strong communication skills.
  • Fluent in English; ability to communicate in Chinese is a plus.
  • Track record of self-leadership transferable to team leadership.
  • Self-awareness and self-care.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Sensitivity to the ethnic specific and multi-generational needs of the church.
