Job Description & How to Apply Below

The Mechanical Engineering program at York College of Pennsylvania invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering position beginning in the Fall 2026 semester. The growing and successful program houses approximately 200 undergraduates, six full-time faculty members, and five part‑time and full‑time staff members. Our collegial and collaborative program is characterized by a focus towards hands‑on work, small class sizes, and extensive student/faculty interactions.

Students in the engineering programs participate in design/build/test projects throughout the curriculum, culminating with a yearlong Capstone Design project that requires a functioning prototype. The curriculum also includes several courses that utilize our state‑of‑the‑art Materials Science and Fluid Mechanics laboratories. Our program emphasizes providing students with many opportunities to apply their classroom learning in real‑world settings. To that end, a keystone of the York College mechanical engineering program is that our curriculum requires students to complete two semesters of full‑time engineering work in an industry setting through our extremely successful co‑operative learning program.

This is facilitated by strong partnerships with local and national industry collaborators, and typically means that all of our graduates have job offers prior to their graduation.

For this position, we seek candidates that are eager to teach and support undergraduates in a student‑centered, project‑based learning environment. Applicants with a desire to utilize their knowledge and skills in mentoring undergraduates, conducting research with undergraduates, and teaching mechanical engineering courses across the full spectrum of our curricular offerings are encouraged to apply. Candidates with expertise in the general area of solid mechanics and design are preferred.

Applicants with industry or other experience in computer‑aided design and machining (CAD/CAM) and basic shop operations, such as lathe and mill operations, are highly preferred.

The successful candidate will typically teach 28 contact hours of courses per academic year. Outstanding teaching and advising are of primary importance in this role at the College, with the successful candidate being expected to advise undergraduate students regarding their course curriculum and on career matters. In addition, the successful candidate will also be expected to engage in service to the department, College, and community and will be strongly encouraged to engage in research involving undergraduate students.

An earned Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field is required.
