Opening Statement

The Early Childhood Camp Lead Teacher leads a Waldorf-inspired summer camp for children ages 3 to rising first grade. This role involves creating and implementing engaging weekly themes and activities, mentoring Assistant Teachers, and collaborating with the Auxiliary Programs Coordinator to ensure a safe, joyful, and imaginative camp environment. Campers include current Brooklyn Waldorf School students, incoming students for the 2026–27 school year, and children whose families are exploring Waldorf education.

Responsibilities
  • Establish and maintain a consistent, Waldorf-inspired daily rhythm that fosters safety, connection, and imaginative play.
  • Design engaging weekly themes that guide camp rhythms and activities, bringing each week to life through creative handwork, nature stories, movement, and seasonal circles.
  • Lead a culminating weekly project that reflects the camp’s theme and encourages collaboration and creativity.
  • Coordinate and lead multiple off-campus park visits each week, ensuring all activities are developmentally appropriate and safe for participants.
  • Provide mentorship and daily guidance to assigned Assistant Teachers to foster a positive and collaborative teaching team.
  • Communicate regularly with parents and caregivers at drop-off and pickup, sharing thoughtful updates about each child’s social and developmental experience.
  • Collaborate closely with the Auxiliary Programs Coordinator regarding weekly plans, park trips, supplies, attendance, staffing, and safety.
  • Ensure classroom setup and closure are completed daily within the camp schedule.
  • Commit to working a minimum of two consecutive camp weeks (additional weeks strongly preferred).

Availability to substitute during non-working weeks is highly desired.

Qualifications
  • Waldorf Teaching Certification or 3+ years of experience as a Waldorf Early Childhood teacher.
  • Strong leadership and mentoring skills, with the ability to guide and support Assistant Teachers.
  • Demonstrated experience planning and leading Waldorf-aligned activities in a classroom or camp setting.
  • Excellent communication skills and a warm, professional presence with children and families.
  • Strong organizational and time-management abilities.
  • Ability to navigate a multi-level school building (stairs and/or elevator).
