Placemaking Corps at Concrete Safaris

This Ameri Corps Member's Purpose will be to conduct child- and youth-centered environmental health literacy and place-based service-learning interventions in East Harlem. Through direct service, planning, and leadership of child and youth-centered environmental health service learning projects, Ameri Corps members will gain skills and confidence to develop as leaders. Ameri Corps members will educate children and youth on environmental health, facilitating implementation of their visions for a healthy neighborhood through gardening, outdoor play, and art interventions.

Member Duties :
Facilitation:
Engage 2nd - 5th-graders in morning and after-school STEAM workshops, service projects, field trips, incl. gardening, outdoor play, photo, placemaking, field trips. Positive Role Modeling:
Serve as positive role model to students 7-24-yrs-old, building trusting relationships, listening to students' concerns, and helping develop outdoor environmental STEAM and placemaking service. Academic Support:
Lead educational games, workshops and service to help students build confidence, leadership, and love for outdoors. Assist with hw as needed. Data Tracking/Reporting:
Maintain records of attendance, progress. Submit reports to Placemaking Corps Coordinator. Facilitate pre- and post-tests. Education / Training:
Attend Ameri Corps and other trainings, and service projects for events such as MLK Jr. Day, I Love My Park Day, Earth Day, and Annual Ameri Corps NY Service Summit. Summer members are required to plan for and participate in CS' Transformation Week.
