Chief Engineer

Oversee and maintain overall responsibility for propulsion plant and auxiliary machinery equipment for the assigned Cutter Suction Dredge. Acting as a vessel officer in partnership with the Captain, manage the safe and reliable operation of all vessel machinery, including supervision of engine‑room crew and any contracted repair services onboard.

Work in coordination with shoreside Maintenance Superintendents and Managers to ensure the vessel’s preventive maintenance system is followed and recommended improvements are implemented.

• Ensure the vessel meets all regulatory requirements set forth by applicable ABS, USCG regulations, rules, and CFRs.
• Be familiar and knowledgeable of applicable Company ISM and Maintenance Department policies and procedures and the company’s Maintenance Operating System (MOS).
• Lead daily pre‑shift meetings and safety walkthroughs with staff, promoting proactive safety‑reporting tools.
• Maintain clean and safe work environments for staff during operations and assigned tasks, promote thorough JSAs and verify required PPE is supplied and worn.
• Lead effective emergency drills in partnership with the Captain, as required by USCG.
• Maintain daily engine‑room logs, oil record books, LOTO logs; monitor critical equipment operating parameters and daily fluid levels.
• As part of the preventive maintenance system, ensure vessel’s condition‑monitoring equipment and tasks are maintained.
• Maintain vessel critical spare inventories within designated Min/Max values and order parts as they are consumed.
• Assist Maintenance Management and Shipyard teams to identify work and plan for maintenance periods/shipyard events.
• Participate in weekly Vessel Reliability Assured Maintenance (RAM) meetings.
