Construction Manager (utilities experience)
Location:
Augusta, ME, Binghamton, NY. This role requires field presence throughout the region.
We are seeking a Construction Manager with utilities experience for electric substations, transmission lines, generation upgrades, and related projects. The role involves managing Field Construction Managers, contractor performance, schedule integration, and safety compliance.
Responsibilities- Manage and evaluate Field Construction Managers for electric substation, transmission line, and generation upgrade projects.
- Determine contract resource requirements, service specifications, and monitor contractor performance.
- Coordinate field inspections and sign-offs; prepare punch lists and close-outs.
- Ensure project adherence to safety, quality, schedule, and budget, including CIP, FERC, NERC, and NEISO standards.
- Develop, review, and recommend contract and agreement changes impacting project execution.
- Collaborate with management staff to resolve problems and coordinate with field managers.
- Integrate construction management into planning, scheduling, cost tracking, installation, testing, and acceptance activities.
- Ensure timely procurement of construction materials and proper material handling plans.
- Schedule coordination with other functional areas.
- Provide constructability feedback on electrical, mechanical, protection, and civil standards.
- Identify construction risks and develop mitigation plans.
- Assist in emergency response for substation and line transmission system issues.
- Contribute to the budget process and cost control.
- Support negotiations and joint planning with other utilities.
- Perform other duties as directed by the supervisor.
- Minimum 10 years of progressive electric utility industry experience (substations, transmission, distribution, gas, hydro, or Smart Grids).
- Minimum 7 years of construction management experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, or related field.
- Five years supervisory experience preferred.
- Willingness to travel daily to construction sites and attend meetings.
- Proficient with information technology:
Internet, Intranet, Microsoft Windows OS, Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Office Suite, and Microsoft Project. - Strong communication, presentation, problem‑solving, and decision‑making skills.
Expected compensation range is $105,000 – $133,000 per year, depending on skills, experience, and geographic location.
