In‑jail services include medical, nursing, mental health, substance use treatment, social work, dental and vision care, discharge planning, and reentry support. The program leverages the resources of the largest municipal health care system to help admitted patients successfully return to their communities and partners in New York City’s criminal justice reform efforts.
Duties & Responsibilities Clinical Responsibilities- Identify individuals admitted to correctional facilities with infectious disease needs through electronic health records, report management systems, and tracking tools.
- Provide direct patient care for acute or chronic infectious disease conditions, including HIV, hepatitis C and B, STIs, tuberculosis, skin and soft tissue infections, wounds, and systemic bacterial processes.
- Deliver clinical consultation and guidance related to infectious diseases to site medical directors, infection control teams, and clinical staff.
- Offer direct administrative and clinical supervision for the infectious disease service, including and the Medspan team.
- Oversee staffing requirements for the infectious disease service within the facility.
- Direct the formulation and execution of workflows and protocols pertinent to the service.
- Organize and lead scheduled rounds and meetings for the .
- Facilitate conferences and seminars with other clinical services and both CHS‑based and external re‑entry programs.
- Provide supervisory clinical guidance to the site medical director and staff of the communicable diseases unit.
- Oversee admission and discharge criteria for patients with confirmed or suspected communicable diseases within the CDU.
- Lead patient tracking initiatives within the CDU, monitoring clinical conditions, medication regimens, and laboratory results.
- Collaborate with and provide clinical consultation to the infection control team.
- Engage in initiatives focused on system‑wide education, quality improvement, and population health.
- Direct projects, analytical efforts, patient tracking, and quality improvement initiatives for the infectious disease service.
- Cooperate with relevant external agencies to ensure high‑quality, data‑driven continuity of care for patients admitted to or discharged from correctional facilities.
- Provide supervisory direction and guidance for the Medspan Program.
- Oversee creation and implementation of staffing, workflows, and protocols for the team.
- Direct scheduled rounds and meetings for the Medspan team.
- Lead research initiatives, patient tracking, and quality improvement efforts for the team.
- Graduation from a medical school approved by the Council on Medical Education and Hospitals of the American Medical Association.
- Completion of an acceptable internship in an approved hospital.
- A license to practice medicine in the State of New York.
- Certification by the American Board in the field of specialization or a faculty appointment of Associate Professor or higher in a medical school recognized by the American Medical Association.
- Eight (8) years of satisfactory full‑time paid experience in the field of specialization, including at least three (3) years in a supervisory or administrative capacity.
